32 21 42 A Comedy Written By Shari Carpenter Synopsis 32 21 42 Forty two year old MONICA WOLFE has had a sh*tty day. Her BOSS reamed her out in front of the entire company for almost losing a client, implying maybe she was getting too old and just maybe losing her edge. (This from a man who uses spray on hair dye that drips and stains his shirt collar like old school curl activator.) Pissed off and hurt, Monica drowns her sorrows at a bar. When an OVERZEALOUS BARFLY comes on a little too strong, Monica is rescued by SONNY, an attractive young man, ten years her junior. And one thing leads to another: black coffee, flirtation, a one night stand that turns into a whirlwind weekend romance. But, despite their undeniable attraction, for practical Monica, that s all it was and could be a weekend romance. The two part never expecting to see each other again. Five weeks later, Monica s 21 year old daughter, ELENI, comes home on a college break as giddy as her mama was a few weeks earlier and professing to be in love. Imagine Monica s shock and surprise when the object of her daughter s affection shows up and she discovers that Eleni s new beau, WOODSON WOOD MCKOY and Monica s own young hottie, Sonny, are one and the same. What is a mother to do? Eleni has made it her personal mission to lose her virginity to Sonny/Wood. Wood has an even more complex mission. First: stave off Eleni s advances. Then, convince Monica he s not just a dog out to screw a mother and her daughter and prove to her that his feelings for her are the real deal. And Monica fights, not entirely successfully, to control her attraction to Wood so as not to break her daughter s heart. As if. Add MONICA s EX HUSBAND, CRAIG who has seen the error of his ways and shows up wanting to reconcile with her and a pregnancy scare (!) to the mix and this college break is on a collision course for romantic and relationship disaster. Along for the ride is Monica s brother, RONALD (that s RENALDO to you) an innocent, but oh so amused bystander and the eventual voice of reason. NStar Entertainment As of: 2/22/13 2

In the late 80s, I saw a groundbreaking film, written and directed by a groundbreaking young filmmaker. Spike Lee. And that film was called, She's Gotta Have It. It was about a young black woman living in Brooklyn and guess what. I too was a young Black woman living in Harlem. There s something about seeing yourself, or a reasonable facsimile of yourself, represented on a movie screen that is totally empowering. And that new door that had just been cracked open was officially kicked all the way open and I found my calling, my purpose. I am a filmmaker. I worked my way up through the ranks on films with Spike while creating my own projects. My first short, Since Lisa, screened coast to coast and won awards at the Black American Cinema Society, The Black Filmmakers Hall of Two years later I wrote my first feature film, Kali s Vibe. It was nominated for the Gordon Parks Award and won both the Jury and Audience Award at the Denver Pan African Film Festival and a Vision Award at the Los Angeles An unexpected phone call from a producer friend led to my second feature, Building Girl. I affectionately call it my Then to continue to hone my skills as a director while I figured out what I wanted my next feature film to be, I Suggested Cast Is there attached talent/cast? NStar is focused on securing top talent for the principal roles/main characters of Monica and Wood. Based on a number of focus groups with urban millennial women, Taraji P. Henson was the most liked and relatable character for Monica. There are a number of terrific actors who could play Wood (i.e., Anthoney Mackie, Michael Ealy, or Columbus Short). To increase the film s domestic box office numbers, NStar is pursuing talent with proven appeal and recognition among urban millennial women for several of the other key roles. For the role of Craig Morgan (the ex husband of Monica) for example, NStar will seek actors Mike Epps and Charlie Murphy. Pursuing actors such as Cassie Davis (of Tyler Perry fame) to play the nosey neighbor as the character Thea will also expand 32 21 42 s domestic/urban appeal. Casting name actors such as Bow Wow or Drake as Quentin, would broaden the film s appeal to the hip hop generation. NStar Entertainment As of: 2/22/13 3
