THE TVET KAB STUDY - 2014 GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The goal of this study was to assess HIV & AIDS-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of students in the TVET sector in South Africa. The specific objectives of the study were to: assess the level of knowledge about different aspects of HIV/AIDS; examine the attitudes of students and staff at TVET colleges towards HIV/AIDS and stigma related to HIV; assess the sexual behaviours and the scope of risk behaviours related to the possibilities of getting infected with HIV; assess the effectiveness of existing programmes about HIV/AIDS that are currently provided in HEIs.

Summary: Negative findings Staff and students who have not heard of AIDS. Negative attitudes towards sharing with PLHIV Negative attitudes towards prevention of STI and towards condom use. Low condom use at last sex, with a regular partner and with a sex worker and inconsistent condom use with non-regular and sex worker partners. Low TB testing levels among students and staff. Very high alcohol use levels Poor use of social media as the main source of HIV/AIDS information.
