Relay For Life of Wood County General Event Information Date - Saturday May 19th 11am 11pm Wood Co. Fairgrounds RelayForLIfe.org/woodco Fundraising Moment Ultimate Lemons 1. Welcome 2. Kick Off Agenda - see page 2 2. Event Update 3. Mission Moment March 12th, 2018 March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the US among men and women combined, but colorectal cancer can often be prevented or found at an earlier stage with regular screening. Starting at age 50, men and women at average risk for developing colorectal cancer should get screened. There are several screening options available, including simple take-home options. The Society has a shared goal with the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable and hundreds of organizations to get 80% of age eligible people screened by 2018. If successful, recent Society research shows that 277,000 cases and 203,000 colorectal cancer deaths would be prevented by 2030. If you know someone 50 or older, encourage them to talk to their doctor and get screened for colon cancer! 4. ACS CAN Moment Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act This is another simple fundraiser that is very easy to organize. Contestants have to balance a coin on top of a floating lemon for a count of five seconds. Whatever coin they use they win 5 times the amount. Try it at home - its not as easy as it looks! Ground Rules: No side conversations/one person speaking at a time Keep it to an Hour Start meeting on time Use phones with respect Please contact: Brian Gibson Brian.Gibson@cancer.org 888.227.6446 ext. 5205 ACS CAN is working to close the loophole resulting in big colonoscopy bills for Medicare patients. Under Medicare, there should be no co-pay for a colonoscopy. But, if the doctor removes a polyp, you can wake up to a big bill. Ask Congress to end the loophole that allows this surprise charge. We are fortunate in Ohio to have one of our senators as a sponsor of the removing barriers bill. You can thank Sen. Sherrod Brown on social media and use our hashtag. #CloseCRCLoophole while asking Senator Portman to co-sponsor the legislation. In our state we have bi-partisan support for removing barriers in congress with 9 members co-sponsoring, 6 Republicans and 3 Democrats. 5. Sponsorship Challenge Fill out 1-3 sponsorships, write a simple letter on stationary or post it and Brian will mail out on Monday March13th, 2018 Follow up with them on Monday March 21st, 2018 Team and/or individual raising the most committed sponsorship dollars by Friday March 30th will win a Campsite In A Bag 6. Speaking Engagements If you know of an organization that Brian can speak at, please let him know. 7.
