MI Varnish The ultimate fluoride varnish

GC introduces MI Varnish, the first fluoride varnish with RECALDENT (CPP-ACP) MI Varnish is a 5% NaF varnish enhanced with 2% RECALDENT (CPP-ACP) to give an exceptional fluoride varnish that releases more bio-available fluoride, calcium and phosphate. Perfect brush, optimum flow Packaged with the perfect application brush, MI Varnish gives clinicians the smoothest and easiest fluoride varnish application experience. MI Varnish is conveniently delivered in a purpose-designed unit dose containing a generous application of varnish. Smooth, translucent and tasty Once applied, MI Varnish has a beautiful smooth consistency and a neutral shade with natural translucency. The great tasting strawberry and mint flavours mean MI Varnish will be your patient s first preference as well. Nice consistency, great brush, great material, goes on smooth and with one easy layer. It sticks to the brush very well and does not drip from the brush as you take it from container to tooth. As to the colour of the MI Varnish, patients loved it! Dr Lance Kisby, Chief of Pediatric Dentistry Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, USA 2

MI VARNISH The best way to deliver fluoride is in combination with RECALDENT (CPP-ACP) MI Varnish has the highest fluoride release * Cumulative fluoride ion release (μmol/g) 1400 1200 1000 800 600 400 200 0 MI Varnish Clinpro White^ Enamel Pro^ Bilfluorid 5^ Duraphat^ 1 hour 4 hours 24 hours 72 hours 168 hours Synergy When fluoride ions come into contact with RECALDENT (CPP-ACP), the peptide preferentially combines with, and stabilises fluoride, to create the ideal source of ions for building fluorapatite. Ideal size CPP-ACPF is less than 2 nanometres in size and is able to penetrate into biofilms, enamel and dentine. CPP-ACPF has a neutral charge, so it is not hindered in its diffusion characteristics. Superior ion availability * MI Varnish provides a significant source of fluoride, calcium and phosphate ions. * Cochrane NJ, Shen P, Yuan Y, Reynolds EC. MI Varnish is more stable and durable * MI Varnish Clinpro White^ Enamel Pro^ Time (Hours) 0 24 168 Superior durability MI Varnish features a hydrogenated rosin matrix that ensures high fluoride, calcium and phosphate ions availability, combined with translucency and exceptional durability. This enhanced formulation means MI Varnish can provide exceptional protection from dentine hypersensitivity. Bifluorid 5^ Duraphat^ Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. MI VARNISH MI Varnish provides superior protection for hypersensitive dentine MI Varnish contains NaF and RECALDENT (CPP-ACP) dispersed in a rosin and ethanol solution. When MI Varnish is applied, it adheres to the tooth and seals exposed dentine tubules. Contact with saliva sets the varnish and starts the slow dissolution process, driving the release of fluoride and RECALDENT (CPP-ACP). Fluoride ions that are released bind with calcium ions in pellicle and plaque, to form globules of calcium fluoride. These globules deposit on the tooth surface, providing additional blockage of exposed dentine tubules, enhanced acid resistance and promote calcium and phosphate-enriched saliva. MI Varnish sealing dentinal tubules MI Varnish covering dentine Before GC Corporation R&D Dept MI Varnish covering dentine MI Varnish penetrating dentinal tubules After 5

Clinical application 1. Dry the tooth surfaces before application of MI Varnish. 2. Peel the foil lid off the MI Varnish unit dose and stir through. 3. Apply a thin, uniform layer of MI Varnish using a disposable brush. 4. MI Varnish sets when in contact with water or saliva. Dr. Esra Can, Turkey 5. MI Varnish should remain undisturbed on the teeth for 4 hours. Instruct patients to avoid hard, hot or sticky foods, tooth brushing and flossing, products containing alcohol (oral rinses, beverages etc.) during this time period. As a clinician MI Varnish is a must! When applying MI Varnish to the teeth, the flowability and manoeuvring of the brush was excellent. MI Varnish has the greatest acceptance rate of any product I have ever used. Dr Noel Brandon Kelsch, RDHAP 6

MI VARNISH Q&A 1. What is the shelf life of MI Varnish? MI Varnish has a 3 year shelf life from manufacturing date. 2. How much material is there in a unit dose? MI Varnish one unit dose package contains 0.5ml (enough for a full adult dentition). 3. Are fluoride varnishes suitable for all patients? According to the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, fluoride varnish applications every three to six months are recommended for children younger than 6 years, adolescents and adults, who are at elevated risk of developing caries. ** 4. Can MI Varnish be used on patients with crowns and veneers? Yes, MI Varnish can be applied to the margin area of the crown or veneers. 7. Do I have to be concerned about pine nut allergies with 5% NaF varnish? The ingredient rosin used in MI Varnish is a processed pine tree extract and not an extract of pine nut. A patient with recognised allergies should consult his/her medical professional for guidance. 8. Can I use MI Varnish in patients who have milk allergies? MI Varnish contains CPP-ACP which is derived from milk casein. Please do not use MI Varnish on patients with proven or suspected milk protein allergies. 9. Does MI Varnish contain any dyes? MI Varnish does not contain any dyes. 10. Does MI Varnish have a more acidic or a more neutral ph? MI Varnish is more neutral at ph 6.6. 5. Is prophylaxis (cleaning) required before the application of MI Varnish? No, MI Varnish does not require a prophylaxis treatment prior to application. 6. Is MI Varnish gluten free? Yes. 11. Are there any contra-indications? Please do not use MI Varnish on patients with ulcerative gingivitis and stomatitis. 12. Are fluoride varnish applications covered by health insurance? It will depend on patient s insurance policy. Please check with the insurance carrier. ** Weyant RJ et al.
