For example, a neurologist is an internist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of brain, spinal cord, and nervous system diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer s disease, headaches, stroke, or injury. Pediatrics: Pediatricians specialize in the care of children. Geriatrics: Geriatricians are trained in family practice or internal medicine and has additional training for older adults.
