Extracting Numbers from Learn, Grow, Eat & Go (LGEG) Output The first page of your output (below) is standard for most results sent by Organizational Development (OD). It contains a profile of your event built mostly with information from your cover sheet. OD adds the calculation of a response rate by comparing the number of surveys returned versus attendance. You may want to report those three pieces of information. In this example, 21 survey forms were processed while attendance was listed as 21 on the cover sheet, for a response rate of 100% NOTE: LGEG is an unmatched ID pre post survey form. The number of surveys returned used to calculate response rate will be based on the number of pretests submitted to OD. For example, if you list attendance as 21, and return 20 pretests and 18 post tests, then the number of Surveys Returned would be 20 (not 18) and the response rate would be 95.2%.
Next is the Score Means Section. There are two scores: exposure and preference. Exposure is a measure of the number of vegetables (from the 20 listed) the participant has tried answering Yes or No on do you like to eat? Preference is the number of vegetables (from the 20 listed) they like to eat answering Yes on the same question. It is hoped both, for all participants considered, the mean number for both scores is higher on the post than the pre. In the example below, the mean number is higher on the post than the mean (14.05 vs. 11.29 and 8.35 vs. 7.71). ********* DIFFERENCES IN SCORES (POST VS. PRE) ********* Group Statistics Test N Mean Std. Deviation Std. Error Mean Exposure Score (Number of Vegetables Tried) Preference Score (Number of Vegetables Liked) Pre 21 11.29 4.244.926 Post 20 14.05 3.531.790 Pre 21 7.71 5.849 1.276 Post 20 8.35 5.761 1.288 This section is continued on the next page. It shows the results of two t tests. A t test is used to determine if a statistically significant difference exist between two means. In your output, there are two t tests; one for the exposure score; the other for the preference score.
What appears to be three tables below is actually one table that is wrapped around. For each score, it s a two step process to determine if a significant difference exist between the post and pre means. Here s the process using the exposure score. 1) First, look at the significance value for Levene s Test (see Column labeled A). If the value is greater than 0.05, then use the Equal variances assumed row for the next step. If the value is 0.05 or less, then look at Equal variances not assumed row for the second step. 2) Second, for the row you selected in the previous step, look at the value in the Column labeled B. If that value is 0.05 or less, than there is a statistically significant difference in the mean values. If the value is greater than 0.05, then there is no statistical difference. Independent Samples Test Levene's Test for Equality of Variances t-test for Equality of Means F A Sig. t df Exposure Score (Number of Vegetables Tried) Equal variances assumed 1.266.267-2.261 39 Equal variances not assumed -2.271 38.327 Preference Score (Number of Vegetables Liked) Equal variances assumed.079.780 -.350 39 Equal variances not assumed -.351 38.953 Independent Samples Test t-test for Equality of Means B Sig. (2-tailed) Mean Difference Std. Error Difference Exposure Score (Number of Vegetables Tried) Equal variances assumed.029-2.764 1.223 Equal variances not assumed.029-2.764 1.217 Preference Score (Number of Vegetables Liked) Equal variances assumed.728 -.636 1.814 Equal variances not assumed.728 -.636 1.813 In this example, for the exposure score, the significance value for Levene s test is 0.267 (greater than 0.05) so we use the Equal variances Assumed row for the next step. The significance value for the t test is 0.029 (less than 0.05) so there is a statistically significant difference between the means. The mean exposure score for the post was significantly higher than the mean exposure score on the pre.
Then use the same process for the preference score. The third table (below) is not used. Independent Samples Test t-test for Equality of Means 95% Confidence Interval of the Difference Lower Upper Exposure Score (Number of Vegetables Tried) Preference Score (Number of Vegetables Liked) Equal variances assumed -5.237 -.291 Equal variances not assumed -5.228 -.301 Equal variances assumed -4.305 3.034 Equal variances not assumed -4.304 3.032
