#KidsNeedKiwanis Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. V O L U M E 8 9, N O. 5 President s Corner F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 8 Welcome February! It might seem like the slow part of our year but there is plenty of planning going on. We are planning for Crabby Tax Night, Holy Week, and District Convention in 2020. All of our Service Leadership Programs (SLP) are still ongoing so if you feel like you want to be a part of something, please reach out and I can help you find your niche! like to be on the committee for that please let me know so we can fill you in on the progress. Our application will go in this quarter but we won't find out until much later this year. Having the convention here will bring Kiwanians from all across the Panhandle, Colorado, and Wyoming to our area! What a great way to showcase our club and our hometown! We are hoping to bring Rocky Mountain District Convention to Scottsbluff in August 2020. It seems so far away but we have already made great strides in the planning process. If you would Scottsbluff Kiwanis President, Kendra Lauruhn Please continue to make an effort to attend our Thursday meetings. This is where we are able to network and learn more about each other. We have a lot of amazing people! January Board Updates The Board approved a $200 sponsorship for the Scottsbluff Archery to assist them with their start-up costs. The received Thank You s from Thanksgiving in the Valley for the s assistance, and from Lied Library for their Christmas Party in December. The Board discussed the upcoming Crabby Tax Fundraiser and assignments were designated to assist with the project. Be on the lookout for Volunteer Sign-Up sheets coming soon! The Board has been discussing a new fundraising opportunity called Empty Bowls that if approved, will take place sometime in the Fall of 2018. Derek and Shawna will be scheduling a telephonic conference with the Kiwanis of Monument Hill to obtain start-up details, and will present to the club at a future date. The Board has also been discussing the opportunity to host (in conjunction with the Gering ) an upcoming District Convention, pending meeting with the District s Executive Secretary Nancy for logistical needs details. More to come!

P A G E 2 Aktion Aktion members are collecting donations for the Riverside Discovery Center Zoo as a service project. They donated 1 bag of oranges, 1 package of crackers, 1 can of tuna, 1 jar of peanuts, 1 can of carrots, 2 cans of peas, 1 can of sauerkraut, 2 cans of hash, 2 cans of peaches, 1 can of apricots, and 1 can of olives. The storm drain project has been completed! Thank you to everyone who helped complete this important project. Builder s Builder s is making blessing bags for the homeless. The bags will be distributed through the homeless liaison at Scottsbluff Public Schools. BUGs BUGs will present the mid-year award on Thursday, February 8th at 7:50 am at Longfellow. members will need to meet Katie by the office at 7:40 am and you should be finished by 8:20 am. Awards will be given to the students who have brought up their grades thus far in the year.

We re looking at this to really be our signature event of the year and need all of your help to make it a success. Soon, you will be asked to sell tickets and corporate tables, collect silent auction items, and volunteer to help at Crabby Tax Night. Please start thinking about how you will be able to contribute to this event. It is a great time with great food and great people! Celebrating our Members!
