Objectives of the Conference One of the Millennium development goals of India is reducing maternal and child mortality rate for which Ayurveda can contribute in a significant manner. Being a preventive and curative Indian traditional medical wisdom, Ayurveda has a major role in along with contemporary medical science in shaping up healthy India. In fact Ayurveda can be considered as first system of medicine which has given special emphasis on mother child health care way back since 5000 years. Despite encompassing vast traditional knowledge of medicine, clinical application and acceptance has not gathered momentum. Vatsalyam, is a 2 days national conference which will acts as a platform for dissemination and concretisation of recent updates and research findings concerned to the health and disease conditions of both mother and children. The conference will also help in developing strategies through scientific deliberations to mainstream the treatment principles of Ayurveda into the national health policies concerning mother and child health.
