Fraternal Order of Police Crescent City Lodge #2 Meeting Tuesday, October 14, 2014 7:00 p.m. Minutes Call to Order by President Walter Powers 7:10 p.m. Opening Prayer by State Chaplain Pete Menkiewicz Roll Call of Officers 14 Present 2 Absent (Landry, Goettz) Suspension of the regular order of business Motion to suspend the regular order of business by James Gallagher. Motion seconded by Danny Mack. The membership was addressed by Brother Neil Hall, who discussed his recently published novel, Maximum Devastation. Brother Hall advised that he would be participating in a book signing on Saturday, October 25 at the Barnes and Noble store in Mandeville. The membership was addressed by Louisiana State President Darryl Basco. President Basco introduced the State Lodge Lobbyist Joe Mapes. President Basco and Mr. Mapes presented State Representative Joe Lopinto, III with his award for FOP State Representative of the Year. Brother Basco announced that the Louisiana State Lodge will host the 2019 FOP National Conference in New Orleans. New Orleans bid for the 2019 Conference was unopposed. Reading of previous meetings minutes Motion to dispense with the reading of the previous minutes and approve them as published by David Lentz. Motion seconded by Gary Gremillion. New Members The following individuals have applied for membership in the Crescent City Lodge #2: Regina Williams PIB Christopher Laine Traffic Edmond Cummings Reserve (Associate) George Wischer Retired Motion to accept new members by John Meehan. Motion seconded by Susan Graham. George Wischer was sworn in by National Trustee Willie Patin. Correspondence The lodge sent letters to the following scholarship recipients along with checks representing the amount of the scholarship: Tayelor Kees Grade School/High School ($500.00) Ty Alfonso Grade School/High School ($500.00) Victoria Dean College ($500.00) Marlon Barnes College ($500.00) Melisa Weidman College ($500.00) Omar Garcia Continuing Education ($1000.00) The lodge received a copy of the letter sent by Past State President and National Secretary Patrick Yoes to Dr. Bill Cassidy informing him that the Louisiana FOP was endorsing his candidacy for United States Senate. National Trustee s Report National Trustee Willie Patin Brother Patin advised that his report is online from the National Board Meeting and that New Orleans would be the host of the 2019 National Conference.
State Trustee s Report State Trustee Billy Roth Brother Roth advised that he assisted 15 FOP members to obtain FOP license plates. Brother Roth advised that of the work that he conducted as the co-chair of the elections committee. Legal Report Donovan Livaccari Brother Livaccari updated the membership on upcoming business before the Civil Service Commission relative to the NOLA Patrols (unarmed grounds patrol ) for the French Quarter. Legal Report Claude Schlesinger Brother Schlesinger reported that the TRO against the City and the Civil Service Commission is still in effect and the preliminary hearing has been rescheduled as the new Civil Service attorney would like the opportunity to rewrite some of the rules that are in question. Elections Committee Harold Hand Brother Hand reported that Emile Goettz withdrew from the race for the office of Chaplain and that Pete Menkiewicz withdrew from the race for Trustee. This leaves all candidates for the Board of Directors unopposed. The election in November will be for delegates to the National Conference in Pittsburg. Education Committee Past President Henry Dean Brother Dean updated the membership on the initiatives underway by the Education Committee: Lieutenant s exam preparation classes are continuing. SAT/ACT preparation classes are available at a discount via the Grand Lodge. Planning is ongoing for defensive tactics classes and social media investigations training for 2015. New Business Motion by James Gallagher to donate $250.00 to Easter Seals from our FOP Foundation account. Motion seconded by Hilton Stein.
Old Business None. Good of the Order President Powers congratulated Guard Lucian Sunseri on his 50 th Anniversary as a New Orleans Police Officer. Recent retiree, Brother David Tregre was presented with a retirement pin. Brother Pete Menkiwicz thanked Brothers Henry Dean, Larry Reech, and Raymond Burkart for their work on the MPERS Board to obtain the recent COLA raise. 50/50 Raffle Winner (#925782) Danny Mack -- $56.00 Lodge share -- $57.00 Attendance 93 members present Membership roster is attached to this document.
