Kristin Olson, the 66 th Alice In Dairyland Join Kristin Olson, the 66 th Alice in Dairyland, as she talks about the importance of telling agriculture s story. Kristin will share some of her experiences travelling the state serving as Wisconsin s agriculture ambassador. Each year Alice in Dairyland travels more than 40,000 miles throughout the state speaking to a variety of audiences, and conducts hundreds of media interviews, speeches and presentations. 10:00-10:45: Livestock In Wisconsin, Past Present and Future Jeff Swenson, Livestock and Meat Specialist, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Wisconsin wasn t always the Dairy State. Jeff Swenson will take you on a journey back in time to discuss the history and importance of meat animal agriculture in Wisconsin. He will discuss how cattle, hogs and sheep body types have changed to meet consumer demand, how the Green Bay Packers got their name and what the future may hold for livestock producers. 10:45-11:15 am: Biosecurity - Keeping Your Show Animals Healthy Dennis Foelker, DVM Dr. Dennis Foelker will discuss keeping your show animals healthy and precautions you can take to minimalize disease risks especially at fairs and other livestock shows. 11:15-11:30 am: Break 11:30-Noon Social Media: The Bridge of Communication, From the Farm to the City Alexis Nikelotti, WI Beef Council As agriculture s customers are becoming more disconnected from the farm, many become curious as to where their food comes from. Alexis will speak about what the Wisconsin Beef Council is doing
to ensure consumers are making educated decisions. She will also discuss what you can do to help promote agriculture and educate people about the food they eat using social media.
