Ceres Unified School District 2503 Lawrence Street Sponsored by: Ceres, CA 95307 Meeting Minutes November 7 th, 2018 Welcome Julie Lynn Martin-Borba, Collaborative Coordinator Agenda review Julie thanked the following individuals for supporting the efforts of this group and in making each meeting a success. The Ceres Unified School District for providing the staff time for coordination of the Collaborative The Ceres Unified Grants Department staff for countless hours toward meeting preparation and set up. School sites for providing staff time to assist with inviting parents and to attend the meetings. Local business and community representatives for attending and supporting the efforts of the City and school district in providing programs and services to all the families and children of the Ceres community. Ceres Unified Child Nutrition Services for providing the lunch items. Ceres Unified Technology staff for providing technical support and set-up for every meeting. Information Presentation 1. Second Harvest Food Bank Kirsten Salas, Director of Programs and Rudy Valencia Second Harvest Food bank distributed over ½ million pounds of food in 2017 in Stanislaus County. On track to distribute close to 1 million pounds in 2018. 15 million pounds, total is distributed across multiple counties each year. Each Mobile Fresh Truck can carry 10,000 of food. 5 trucks are distributing food each day. Second Harvest Food Bank is only able to meet about 50% of the actual need in Stanislaus County Food is donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank from local grocers and food companies. Fresh food items (perishable and non-perishable) are available to families. Item may include organic eggs and milk products, fresh vegetables and fruits, juices, breads, etc. Health food items not junk food are distributed. Just in the 5 sessions that the Mobile Fresh truck has distributed food at the Walter White Elementary location (since late August 2018) over 180,000 pounds of food has been given to families. On November 7 th the highest 1-day distribution occurred at 387 families being served at Walter White. Mission Statement: The Ceres Community Collaborative is committed to meeting the needs of the families of Ceres and the surrounding community. We are dedicated to coordinating resources that empower and support individuals and families to learn and grow.

The future goal is to be able to distribute food at all schools in Ceres. More information is available in the attached handouts and flyers, including future dates of food distribution locations. 2. Special Needs In My City Meena Tadimeti and Claudia Velasquez Special Needs In My City is a non-profit foundation providing resources and referrals to families with children with special needs. 700 families currently utilize the services of this organization One-Stop online resource service provider Connects families with existing services in their neighborhood, local area and the region. Parent support groups are held once per month Community engagement activities are promoted among families and children to encourage socialization and civic involvement Volunteer opportunity and fundraiser: Saturday Dec 1 st Fuddruckers Modesto McHenry Avenue 8am 10am All - You Can - Eat Breakfast for $10 Volunteers needed to promote tickets outside restaurant on Sat,12/01 Refer to the attached flyer for additional contact information. Upcoming Activities City of Ceres Parks and Recreation The Winter/Spring 2019 Activity Guide has been released. Copies are available for pick up at the Ceres Community Center The 31 st Annual Christmas Festival and opening of Christmas Tree Lane in Ceres is scheduled for Saturday, December 1 st, 2018. The event will include performances from local groups, activity booths for children and a parade through Christmas Tree Lane. Volunteers are needed for set-up 12-3pm, running booths 5-8pm and clean up 7:30-9:30pm. Other activities are outlined in City of Ceres Winter-Spring Activity Guide For more information, please contact the Ceres Parks and Recreation Department at 538-5648. 2. Letters to Santa Charity Program Volunteers are needed to serve as secret shoppers for this program. If you are interested in serving as a secret shopper please contact Julie Lynn Martin-Borba at jumartin@ceres.k12.ca.us and note the date and time range you can volunteer. Volunteer Dates: November 17 th and December 1 st Time frame 8am to 12pm each date. Shopping takes place at the Walmart in Modesto on north McHenry avenue. 3. ASES Survey Michelle Madrigal and Devyn Dollard, Ceres Unified ASES Program ASES After School Program Community Survey is conducted yearly to receive feedback on programs from parents and community members. Survey was provided to attendees of the meeting. 4. Stanislaus County Workforce Development Board - Andy Fiskum The Stanislaus County Workforce Development Board is updating its Local Plan. Your input is important..
