Dear Riviera Families,

A Review of the 2015/2016 school year and a look towards the future... July 2016 SASA endeavours to raise money for our school by organising events for children and families. The school very much relies on SASA to raise money for projects they want to undertake for our children. What did SASA organise this school year? Christmas Fair 2015 Our profit was 4,800!!! And more profits... Quiz Night Parents- 175 Disco Children- 800 Fashion Show Parents- 500

Royal May Fair Profit 4,500!!! Profits continued... Queen s Birthday- 500 Sponsored Bounce- 1,350 Family BBQ- 650 All year group cake sales- 1,600 Total Profit: 14,875 How was the SASA money spent?

For an event to be successful you need: 1) People to plan and prepare, people to run the actual event, and people to clear up. 2) People to visit the event and spend money. SASA needs help for next year!! 75 volunteers is just not enough to keep organising the much needed fundraising events. We need more people who are willing to help!! From September there will be over 450 pupils at our school; this means at least 450 people that could potentially help. At the moment there are just 75... SASA committee: 5 parents and 2 teachers who meet at least once a month to discuss and plan for fundraising events during the year. Class Representatives: 29 parents who are asked by the SASA committee to assist with the planning and organization of the events. The class reps in turn ask you, the parents, for help. To run a stall at for example the Christmas or May Fair you need an average of 10 to 16 people if everyone does just a 30 minute slot. There is a group of about 40 parents who help the SASA committee members and the class reps out at events. Total number of volunteers: 75 So how can you all help? Actually there are many ways in which you can help, but here are 4 ways which you could consider: Please turn the page...

1) Become a Class Representative Their main role is to keep you informed about events happening at school and SASA events, and to ask you, the parents, to sign up to help at an event. The current class reps are looking for a replacement for next year. It would be fantastic if some of you can consider becoming a class rep for a year. These are some of the comments of your current class reps: - You are able to give something back to the school and to the local community that is a good feeling - It is an opportunity to get to know the parents of your own class and also other classes - You feel you are a part of the school community - It is actually a lot of fun to use your creativity in planning for a stall at the Christmas Fair and/or Summer Fair - It is always a challenge to get parents to come and help, but we don t give up because we do it for our children - People may think that you cannot fulfill the role if you have a full time job, and that you have to be at the school play ground every day, and that you have to help at every event!! NOT true! - A lot of the work involves communicating with the parents, and these days that is so much easier with all the fantastic communication tools we have - The main events always take place over the weekend or in the evening when people do tend to be more available. 2) Parents with special skills, hobbies etc. We are looking for parents who have skills they would like to share with us. For example, if you are good at carpentry, if you like designing flyers/brochures/promotional materials, if you like to teach children to make things, if you have good contacts within the local community and can help to get raffle prizes, or perhaps you love making pizza s, cakes etc. There are so many different things involved in organising an event...many of you must have skills and lots of ideas that would be so much appreciated. 3) Sign up to help at the events Help with the set-up, the manning of the stall or the clear up at the end. 4) Last but not least: to attend the events and spend money to help raise money for OUR children. Please find the sign up sheet attached!
