Natinal guidance The plicy was drawn up in cnjunctin with a range f natinal dcuments including infrmatin and a draft plicy frm the Schl Fd Trust, the Fd in Schls Tlkit (Department f Health) and Fd Plicy in Schls a strategic plicy framewrk fr gverning bdies (Natinal Gvernrs Cuncil, (NGC) 2005). This plicy applies t: all pupils and parents/carers prviding packed lunches t be cnsumed within schl r n schl trips during schl hurs. all staff and gvernrs eating a packed lunch in the presence f pupils. Fd and drink in packed lunches The schl will prvide space fr string packed lunches and ensure that free, fresh drinking water is readily available at all times. The schl will wrk with parents t ensure that children are eating a healthy, well balanced meal at lunchtime. As fridge space is nt available in schl, pupils are advised t bring their packed lunch in insulated bags t ensure that it remains fresh and tasty until lunch time. Freeze blcks can be included if desired.
All staff supervising pupils eating packed lunches are aware f fd hygiene prcedures and will encurage the children t apprach their fd in a hygienic manner. They will als encurage a well mannered, scial eating envirnment. We prvide children with access t antiseptic hand gel t ensure that their hands are clean befre eating. Packed lunches can include: a sandwich with a healthy savury filling r equivalent main meal (eg. pasta, ndles, rice, cus cus, ptat, sup, falafel, curry etc.) a prtin f fresh r dried fruit withut added sugar (eg. apple, mang, grapes, raisins) AND a prtin f vegetables (eg. carrt sticks, mini tmates, cucumber, celery etc.) yghurt, frmage frais, cheese r similar dairy item r ther nn-dairy prtein item (eg. tfu, seeds, salami). water Please DO NOT INCLUDE: chclate, chclate cvered biscuits r chclate spread jam sweets fizzy drinks such as cla, Luczade, and lemnade fruit drinks (eg. Ribena, Fruit Shts), flavured water, sprts drinks, squash r crdials; as these items cntain very high levels f sugar and nuts. In this case parents are asked t be respnsible and ensure that packed lunches cntain healthy alternatives t thse utlined abve. is allergy aware and will liaise with parents/carers t ensure the health and safety f a child with severe fd allergies. As part f this awareness we d nt allw the children t share their fd with thers. Please discurage yur child frm ding s. Parents/carers must highlight any issues cnnected with their child s diet n the child s schl applicatin frm. Tips n intrducing yur child t healthier fds If yu're finding it difficult t intrduce healthier fd int yur child's daily diet, yu may find these ideas useful. Experiment with healthy fd; frzen banana r meln chunks make a tasty alternative t ice cream r lllies and help children t see that healthy fd des nt have t be bring. Make sure that ne meal a day is taken as a family and eat healthily s that yunger children have a gd example presented t them. Make cking and baking fun get yur child invlved and yu'll be raising their general knwledge f basic ingredients and cking skills.
