Week 6: Kidney and Bladder Treating down the Bladder in the Back From side position, move into the wing cleaning position as shown. Your outside foot should be flat on the floor, so that you can plant your messenger elbow against your thigh. Utilize push-pull technique. The arrows in the diagrams indicate how your mother hand at the shoulder will rotate the shoulder out as you twist in with the lower body to project your messenger thumb into the Bladder meridian. This will keep the receiverʼs torso stable and perpendicular to the floor. Continuing down the Bladder Meridian...
Transitioning down to work the bladder meridian in the leg....all the way to the sacroiliac joint (where the tailbone meets the hip)

BL 10 - Pillar of Heaven - (not pictured) - 1.3 cun lateral to the midline of the neck, on the lateral aspect of the trapezius, the ropy muscles of the neck, right where they attach to the occipital ridge of the skull. BL 36 is in the center of the gluteal fold. BL 37 is on the midline of the thigh, 6 cun below BL 36. BL 38 is 1 cun proximal to the lateral edge of the knee fold (popliteal crease). BL 39 is in the lateral edge of the knee fold, medial to the biceps femoris tendon. BL 40 is in the center of the knee fold. BL 55-57 are on the calf midline, between the heads of the gastrocnemius. BL 57 - In The Mountains - In the lowest part of the groove in the lower calf muscle (gastrocnemius), in between the bellies of the muscle, on the vertical midline of the back of the leg. BL 58 is 1 cun lateral and 1 cun distal to BL 57 BL 59-61 are on a vertical line halfway between the fibula and the achilles tendon. BL 60 is directly in between the tip of the lateral malleolus (ankle bone), and the achilles tendon. 59 is 3 cun above 60. 61 is 1.5 cun below 60. 62-66 follow the outside edge of the foot. BL 67 - Extreme Yin -.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nail on the lateral side of the little toe.
Treating down the Bladder meridian in the leg. Mother hand is at BL 36 at the gluteal fold, while the messenger hand treats all the way to the end of the meridian. A few highlights are illustrated. BL 37 is treated here... BL 39... BL 57 in the mountains... BL 60 (contraindicated during pregnancy)... BL 67 extreme yin (contraindicated during pregnancy)...
Now reposition yourself to work on the Kidney meridian on the other leg. Your mother hand will begin at KI 1 on the sole of the foot. In this illustration, the left hand is mother hand. KI 1 KI 3 KI 10 Kidney Meridian - Root of Yin and Yang, Ancestral Essence KI 1 Gushing Spring - On the sole of the foot, in the center, just posterior the ball of the foot, where a depression opens when you curl your toes. KI 3 Great Brook - Level with the tip of the medial malleolus (ankle bone), in between the malleolus and the achilles tendon. KI 10 Yin Valley - Behind the knee, in the knee fold (popliteal crease), on the medial side, between the two close tendons. KI 27 Transporting District - (not pictured) Below the medial head of the collarbone (clavicle), slightly lateral to the bump at the end of the bone.
Treating the Kidney Meridian in the leg, side position Mother hand at KI 1, gushing spring, Messenger at KI 3, great brook......ki 9......KI 10, yin valley. At this point, the upper hand becomes mother hand. Lower hand, now the messenger hand, works its way up to meet the mother hand at KI 10, yin valley. Again, change mother and messenger hand. Upper hand, now messenger hand, treats the meridian in the back of the thigh. There are no official points here, but this is a great area for treating deep fatigue.
