What is Chai Day? 2016 is a Leap Year. We have an extra day this year! Here at Asian Circle we have decided to use this extra day to do something meaningful. We ve decided to launch a Chai Day on the 29 th of February, which will work similarly to a coffee morning. We want to get everyone involved and raise funds to help to End Violence Against Women. Please join us and organise your very own Chai Day! It s a great opportunity to gather friends, family and work colleagues and do something fun for charity. There are different ways that you can raise money during this event. You can ticket your Chai Day and ask those who attend to donate a fee or instead you could sell chai, cakes, sweets etc. at your workplace or office; it is entirely up to you how you wish to organise your day! We are currently working with the poorest indigenous tribal aborigine communities in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, East India, in partnership with Oxfam. The funds that we raise are being used to build shelters for women and provide counselling, sustenance and education programmes, in addition to working with the youth and men. Here is what the money you raise can go towards: 100 provides vital legal aid to 5 women 300 provides a monthly counselling session for 20 women facing violence 500 provide capacity building for women survivors, for example by establishing a survivors support network 1000 could help cover the cost of awareness raising sessions for 100 men on violence against women, challenging entrenched attitudes and beliefs about women 2000 could pay for 250 police officials to be educated about issues surrounding gender-based violence 3900 would train 650 village women to form vigilance groups to support women facing violence 4200 could cover the running costs of a women s support centre at a police station for one year So help us to help these women this leap year and host your own Chai Day!
