NEW HOPE and new beginnings! 2018 Annual Ministry Report Your compassion and generosity are providing life-changing meals and hope for a new life to the hungry, hurting, and homeless.

our Mission The Scott Mission, empowered by God s grace and provision, welcomes individuals and families to access spiritual, relational, and practical resources in a journey towards hope and transformation. Rooted in Christian mercy and love, we reach out to the communities of Toronto. ourvalues Dependence on God, Faithfulness, Generosity, Grace, Hospitality, Integrity, Mercy and Love, and Respect. our Board Jonathan Wilson, Board Chair Jason Storsley, Board Vice-Chair Glenn Mallory Trevor Serebro Kathleen Butterfield Doreen Harvey Navin Singh Susan VanderSpek Bruce Tavender

A message FROM OUR CEO Thank you for helping the hungry, hurting, and homeless! If you re like me, you ll find this 2018 Annual Report to be both shocking and encouraging. It s shocking to learn that so many vulnerable families and individuals in our city are struggling financially. Surviving from day to day, their lives are literally teetering on the edge of poverty. What kind of future do they have? How can low-income parents feed and clothe their children? Or how can a senior citizen afford prescriptions? They can t. Not on their own. That s why I am so thankful and encouraged that friends like you choose to partner with The Scott Mission. Together, we are making a difference for neighbours like Doug, Robin, Darla, and Alex whose stories are shared within this report. The enclosed annual report will show you just how much of an impact you made in 2018, for our neighbours who were hungry and afraid. Please then partner with us again today to make 2019 a year when no one in your community suffers the pain of hunger or feels the fear that they and their loved ones may soon be homeless. It is a great blessing to serve alongside you, sharing the mercy and love of Christ with our neighbours who are in need. Peter Duraisami Chief Executive Officer The Scott Mission So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 ESV 03

I was without hope... thanks for helping me. Doug

MEN S MINISTRY Doug had been beaten so far down by life that alcohol was his only comfort. He was hungry and sick when he first came through the doors of The Scott Mission. I was completely alone, without hope and miserable, Doug recalls. I could come to the Mission and get a meal and feel a little bit of hope, a sense of belonging. Support from caring friends and donors gave Doug a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. We prayed for him and talked about Jesus love and plans for him. We encouraged him to trust in God and take the steps to beat addiction and rebuild his life. Doug is on the road to recovery now, and he is deeply grateful for the prayers and compassion of The Scott Mission s caring friends and donors. I used to come here because I was homeless and hungry, Doug says. Today, I come for the Bible study. I m really grateful to The Scott Mission for helping me out. Your compassion and generosity are saving and changing lives each day! Doug had given up on life, but now he knows that people like you care and God loves him. Thank you for partnering with us again today to provide meals, clothing, spiritual healing, counselling, and more for men in need. YOUR GIFTS IN ACTION Thanks to your support of our Men s Ministry, many lives have been impacted Over 4,260 visits for clothing 92,000+ hot meals Over 22,400 personal hygiene items 5,762 visits for laundry and showers 05

CAMP & YOUTH MINISTRY Alex knows about summer camps, and insists Scott Mission Camp is the best. That s why he hasn t missed attending for six years! When asked what s so great about Scott Mission Camp, Alex says the counsellors are awesome and there are lots of great activities like canoeing, biking, swimming, hiking, and singing and dancing around the campfire. But what he likes best is the impact camp has had on his spiritual growth. It s a cool experience that has brought more faith into my life than I previously had, he says. The devotions and Bible lessons taught me a lot more and really pushed me through to where I am now. In addition to camp, Alex attends after-school programs at the Mission each week to nurture friendships and continue his spiritual growth. He has also completed our Foundations program, to hone his leadership skills and equip him to serve as a camp counsellor in the future. Thankful for the many friends who give generously to make Scott Mission Camp happen each year, Alex says, Thanks for supporting Scott Mission Camp. It helps the kids and everyone who s involved. Please share another gift today to impact the lives of more youth and teens in your community! My faith has opened up new doors and I ve learned a lot of new things. CHILDCARE MINISTRY Robin had no idea what an incredible impact The Scott Mission and the O Connor Family Centre would have in her life and that of her family. But she found out quickly when the daycare she had lined up for her daughter fell through. What a relief when she learned childcare was available for her daughter at the O Connor Family Centre. It s been great, she says. Everybody s very friendly and we ve had lots of good experiences. Alexandra was just one year old when we got here and now she ll be starting school in September. She s developed and learned a lot. Her best friends are here and she loves the teachers. Her best friends are here and she loves the teachers. Desperate to feed, clothe, and care for her children, she took the advice of a friend and visited The Scott Mission. They ve helped us with everything from groceries to Christmas gifts for the children, Darla says. Darla and her family are giving thanks for you and your support which is helping to provide food and clothing, spiritual support, special help at Christmas, retreats, counselling, education, and more.
