Broward County appears to have a major problem with gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). This fairly new club drug has been involved with at least 20 overdoses treated at BGMC and was involved in 4 deaths in 1996 and 1997. More recently, there have been several overdoses with the precursor to GHB, gamma butyrolactone (GBL) which is converted to GHB when ingested.
