Patient Care Be able to: Perform and interpret basic TTE and X cardiac Doppler examinations Perform and interpret a comprehensive X TTE and cardiac Doppler examination Perform and interpret a comprehensive X TEE examination (including intra-operative) Perform 150 and interpret 300 echocardiograms X Recognize disease pathophysiology based X on the echocardiographic and cardiac Doppler examination Quantify severity of cardiovascular disease X using echocardiography and related techniques Recognize echocardiographic artifacts X

Patient Care Integrate echocardiographic, clinical and X cardiac Doppler findings with other testing results in the evaluation and management of patients Interpret stress echocardiograms X Utilize echocardiography during cardiac X interventions (eg, intra-operative TEE, electro-cardioversion) Perform and interpret intracardiac X echocardiograms Utilize echocardiography and related X techniques in cardiovascular research Obtain and interpret a hand-held X echocardiogram

Systems-based Practice Know the cost of a limited and X comprehensive echocardiographic and cardiac Doppler examination Ensure that the stated indication for X echocardiography and related techniques meets appropriateness criteria Work with third party payers when X necessary to ensure that the requested examination will be covered Preform echocardiography and related X techniques, and interpret echocardiograms and cardiac Doppler studies on call or in locations where echocardiography is not readily available (eg. outreach clinics, other hospitals)

Interpersonal and Communication Skills Be able/willing to: Provide a prompt interpretation X of the echocardiogram/cardiac Doppler study requested Provide immediate communication to X the requesting provider for echocardiographic/cardiac Doppler findings that may indicate life-threatening conditions Educate requesting providers X concerning appropriateness criteria for echocardiography and related techniques Assist requesting providers (when X asked) to select to on appropriate echocardiographic study

Interpersonal and Communication Skills Be able/willing to: Fully describe the echocardiographic X examination to the patient including preparation and performance Obtain informed consent when X applicable

Professionalism Provide the echocardiographic X study and interpretation requested without undo delay or resistance Explain to the patient and provider X why a study cannot be performed if contraindications exist and to suggest alternative imaging studies that are safer which may provide useful information To take into consideration patient X preferences and beliefs before and during the examination To work with providers to help X ensure that appropriateness criteria are met, thus enhancing the likelihood of coverage by third party payers
