What is the Hiram Clarke Community Festival? Throughout Texas, many low-income communities are stuck in a cycle of poverty because they re either uninformed (i.e. don t know the resources that are available to them), ill informed (i.e. they have misconceptions about what it takes to use certain resources), or lack the financial resources to do anything about their situation. The mission of Continuing Progression Center is to strengthen these low-income communities by hosting events that are designed to expose resources and educate the children and adults in those communities. We believe that these events will help them progress further academically, educationally and financially ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty and mis-education. One such event is Hiram Clarke Community Festival (HCCF) - an annual event targeting the residents of Hiram Clarke - a low-income, multicultural community in South Houston. The goal of HCCF is to use miniworkshops and vendor booths to showcase the various businesses and resources available to residents of Hiram Clarke area. Examples of mini-workshops include how to apply for college, improve your credit, prepare a will, start your own business, receive bill pay assistance, etc. At the same time, we hope to celebrate the valuable contributions of members and leaders in the community by hosting fun events like community awards, a talent show, and feature local food trucks and restaurants. HCCF will span 6 hours and 730,000 square feet making it the largest community festival ever held in the South Houston area. What s in it for you? Hiram Clarke is Houston s best-kept secret. Demographics We expect over 3,000 members of the community to attend which consists of 41% African American, 36% Hispanic, 15% Caucasian, 6% Asian and 1% Other. Among those over 18, less than 30% are college-educated.
Our Mission The mission of the Hiram Clarke Festival is to expose the residents of Hiram Clarke to the various businesses and resources available to them so they are encouraged, equipped and empowered to succeed educationally, academically, and financially. About CPC Continuing Progression Center (CPC) is a 7 year-old nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the economic condition of families living in at-risk areas in Dallas and Houston, Texas. Through CPC, youth will be exposed to new and exciting things in the arts, sports and education in an effort to provide positive influence to an at-risk segment of our population. For adults, CPC activities will equip them with the skills necessary to progress further educationally, academically and financially. And finally, for families CPC will equip them with the tools necessary to begin and maintain strong marriages. This will all be done through a strategic group of activities and programs that will encourage, equip and empower youth and adults in the following ways: ENCOURAGE youth through programs and activities that expose them to ideas, careers and experiences beyond their normal scope of experiences and thought in an effort to push their thinking, broaden their imagination, build their confidence in their future, and improve their self-esteem. EQUIP youth mentally and physically with the tools necessary to be successful in whatever career path they choose. Likewise equip adults mentally with the tools necessary to improve their current career path and income. EMPOWER youth to move forward with the knowledge and experiences they ve attained to become positive game-changers in their families, community, and in this great nation. Likewise empower adults to move forward with the knowledge they ve attained to become better parents and sustain a better household. Event Details The event will take place on Saturday, October 22 from Noon to 6 PM.
