Dengue Situation Update 448 23 September 214 Update on the dengue situation in the Western Pacific Region Northern Hemisphere Japan As of September 22, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), Japan, reported a total of 142 confirmed autochthonous cases of dengue fever. None of these cases had recent overseas travel history. While cases were reported from throughout Japan (residents in Hokkaido, Akita, Aomori, Iwate, Ibaraki, Gunma, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Niigata, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Osaka, Yamaguchi, Ehime, and Kochi prefectures), the majority (118/142, 83.1%) were associated with visiting Yoyogi Park or its vicinity. To date, dengue virus serotype 1 has been detected, likely of Southeast Asian origin. Malaysia The number of dengue cases in Malaysia is much higher than last year's. However, in week 37 there has been a 3.3 % increase in the number of dengue cases compare to the previous week. (Graph 1). Philippines Total number of cases reported in Philippines follows the seasonal pattern and showing a decreasing trend since week 31. It reported 59.57% lower rate compared to the same time period last year (Graph 2). Viet Nam However, cumulative number of dengue cases since August was 15,41 cases and 1 deaths. In comparison with same period of last year, cases reduced by 52.9% (27,343 cases in 213) and death reduced by 53% ( 17 deaths in 213).
