232,564+ Australians say PROTECT OUR ABC The petition: We call on the Australian Government to keep our public broadcasters fully-funded, free of ads, free for everyone, and free to remain fair and balanced. The ABC and SBS are the only stations that provide not only real news in depth but also real stories, great educational programs, good dramas and uniquely Australian comedy shows Rose, GetUp member GETUP.ORG.AU/OURABC
NOT JUST A PETITION! The broader national campaign: The Save Our ABC campaign has been one of the most viral and popular campaigns in GetUp s history. Although GetUp members have been taking action to support public broadcasters for years, we have seen an explosion of support since the 2013 Federal election. NATIONAL ABC CAMPAIGN DATA 2013/14 21,591 members chipped in to fund and support putting 10,000 bumper stickers on vehicles hiring huge billboards in strategic areas putting impactful ads on the air And now, in the week before budget night, GetUp members are taking the campaign local, bringing it to you - their local MP. On election eve last year, Prime Minister Tony Abbott made a promise to Australia that there d be no cuts to the ABC or SBS under a government he led. Leaked reports reveal that Mr Abbott is poised to go back on his word, by taking a knife to our iconic national broadcaster. With budget night approaching, GetUp members are stepping up en masse to hold Prime Minister Abbott to his word. It is evident that many of your constituents love the ABC, and expect their representative, to stand up and protect the funding of our national broadcasters. We re asking you to represent the community by supporting the ABC! Authorised by Sam Mclean, Getup, L2/104 Commonwealth St Surry Hills NSW
