Didactics: 10% time will be devted t didactics. The specific required didactics will depend n the fellw s backgrund and training and career gals. Descriptin f Site Funded in 1844, Butler Hspital is a private, nnprfit psychiatric hspital fr adults, adlescents, children, and senirs. Butler is affiliated with the Alpert Medical Schl f Brwn University. The fellw will wrk in the Butler Hspital Memry and Aging Prgram (MAP), directed by Drs. Stephen Sallway and Paul Mally. The MAP, ne f the leading clinical trial centers fr Alzheimer s disease (AD) in the United States, is cmmitted t accelerating drug and bimarker develpment fr AD and t training yung investigatrs fr careers in AD research. The prgram evaluates apprximately 200 new patients with cgnitive 1
impairment annually. Patients underg extensive wrkups, including neurlgic examinatin, neurpsychlgical testing, MRI scan, labratry tests, and gentyping. Patients may underg bimarker testing as well, such as CSF prtein assay r amylid PET scan. Thus, fellws are expsed t state-f-theart diagnstic and treatment methds. The clinic has been in peratin fr ver 20 years, resulting in a database f ver 5000 patients with cmprehensive diagnstic data. The prgram is develping innvative utreach strategies fr AD preventin and the Butler Hspital Alzheimer s Preventin Registry has mre than 1,000 participants. The MAP has a large clinical trials prgram fcusing n bimarker and drug develpment fr Alzheimer s disease with an emphasis n preventin, early detectin and treatment. The prgram is cnducting landmark NIH, fundatin and industry-spnsred clinical and investigatrinitiated studies including ADNI, DIAN, LEADS, develpment f tau PET, tau-based treatments, deep brain stimulatin and primary and secndary preventin trials fr autsmal dminant and spradic AD. Neurpsychlgy has a strng presence at Brwn and the MAP is develping nvel cgnitive assessments, retinal imaging techniques and risk disclsure prtcls t identify individuals at risk fr preventin studies. Brwn als ffers a rich multi-disciplinary training envirnment and the fellw will have the pprtunity t cllabrate with clleagues frm many departments n translatinal research in AD and neurdegenerative disrders. Fellwship Aims T prvide the fellw with expertise in the design, cnduct, and management f clinical trials fr cgnitive disrders (bth preventative and symptmatic). T prvide the fellw with expertise in design, executin, analysis and publicatin f independent research prjects in aging and dementia. T prvide the fellw with experience wrking as a clinician-researcher-teacher and team leader in a clinical research center fcused n the early diagnsis and treatment f Alzheimer s disease and ther late-life causes f cgnitive decline. Fellwship Timeline The duratin f the fellwship is 1 r 2 years cntingent upn satisfactry prgress. The anticipated start date is July-September. Participates in weekly MAP research team meetings and cnsensus cnference. Attends reginal, natinal, and internatinal cnferences pertinent t the fellw s clinical research activities in the MAP. Prvides mentred clinical-research supervisin f and teaching t ther MAP trainees and staff. 2
Part f the fellw s clinical research activities will invlve either an independent research prject r literature review. The fellw is required t present their research activities r literature review at natinal r internatinal cnferences. The fellw is strngly encuraged t submit their research wrk r literature review fr peer-reviewed publicatin. Clinical Activity Plan The fellw will devte apprximately 20% time t clinical care activities in the Butler Hspital Memry and Aging Prgram (MAP) under the supervisin f the Primary Supervisr r apprpriate designee. The specific clinical care activities and level f supervisin will depend n the fellw s discipline and level f experience. Neurpsychlgy and psychlgy fellws will receive clinical supervisin in accrdance with guidelines set by Brwn s Pstdctral Fellwship Training Prgram.
