TRANSITION OVERVIEW OHSAS 1800:2007 to ISO 45001:2018
Overview: ISO 45001:2018 is the first international management system standard for Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OH&SMS) that provides a framework for an organization to manage occupational health & safety (OH&S) risks and opportunities. ISO 45001:2018 will replace OHSAS 18001:2007. Current users of OHSAS 18001:2007 will need to update their systems according to the requirements of the new international occupational health and safety standard within a three-year migration period (March 2018 to March 2021). Be Prepared: Step 1: Know the requirements Prior to the Migration Audit being undertaken, clients are required to complete the GRS ISO 45001:2018 Self-Assessment Checklist. Clients are also encouraged to complete an internal audit and management review against the new standard, as this exercise serves both to ensure that all requirements have been addressed in the management system and to provide easy reference to these requirements during the migration audit. As a minimum, the client must have completed a formal self-assessment checklist using the Checklist and reviewed the output with their Top Management at the management review or at an equivalent mechanism. Step 2: Implement the requirements The GRS ISO 45001:2018 Self-Assessment Checklist provides a simple framework for evaluating the client s OH&SMS against the requirements of ISO 45001:2018. The Checklist highlights: The new concepts introduced in ISO 45001:2018 and the related clauses, processes and functional activities; The new and amended clauses between OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 45001:2018; Records of the evidence acquired from one full internal audit against the requirements of ISO 45001:2018. Ensures that required sections are completed prior to your migration assessment and makes sure its availability for GRS assessors at the opening meeting. Contact details provided for any questions or discussions regarding the migration process. Step 3: Be Certified The migration will generally be conducted at the time of annual surveillance or at the recertification audit of a client within the transition time frame, or else, a special audit may be conducted if needed. Additional mandatory time will be added to the audit duration in order to allow the completion of a full and effective migration assessment against the new standard requirements. The additional time will be a minimum of one day, however, the exact additional time will be determined according to unique criteria of the organization. This will be determined by GRS.
Through the assessment findings, if the client is successfully recommended for ISO 45001:2018 certification, GRS will issue a new certificate following the current 18001:2007 certification cycle.
