VANESSA HILL There is a flavor of Sam Cooke in Vanessa's powerhouse vocals. I grew up listening to everything - Otis Redding, George Jones, Dolly Parton, The Staple Singers and lots of Gospel Singers, Hill says in a phone conversation from her Alabama home. Born in the North (Michigan) raised in the rural south (Alabama). At a very early age Vanessa was singing and writing her own songs. After graduation she married and moved to Germany. Soon single she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, a year later she was asked to sign an artist deal with Sony/Tree. Within the third year of moving to Nashville she was asked to sign with Warner Bros. Records Jim Ed Norman, President. After several years on the label as a single artist both she and her daughter signed on as a duo. As a writer Vanessa has had cuts by artists such as The World's Famous Bellamy Brothers. Her song, "We Dared the Lightning" was featured in Billboard Magazine and was played on more than one hundred radio stations across the country and in Europe. It was also released as a single and again as a dance mix holding steady in top 10 CMT videos for several weeks. A year later The Bellamy Brothers cut another one of Vanessa s song, SHERO which David Bellamy revised to tell the Bellamy s life story. And her song Catching up on the Blues was cut by Bjon Jens of Norway.
