Please contact Judy for a subscription. Her email is redfish1313@comcast.net. If you have never been to one of their monthly events, you will really enjoy the big stage events they have and you ll be surprised at the number of bluegrass fans they draw. The show is free, an like every Bluegrass event, there is plenty of food to go around. Judy sends me BABA events that are posted here in the Triple Creek newsletter. Look at this! This rig came from the showroom floor to Triple Creek for its first night on the road. If you look, you will see that Paul is pulling his 5th wheel and that is pulling a trailer with his Harley trike inside. Paul is a picker and joined us for Bluegrass weekend doing a fine job with his dobro. He has been playing 10 years now, but can really get in there with his talents. Rumor has it, that he was sent to Triple Creek by his buddies on a scouting exposition to see if his entire group want to call Triple Creek home. 2

The Claire Lynch Band Claire Lynch Bryan McDowell Mark Schatz Matt Wingate By any measure, the Claire Lynch Band is high on the bluegrass world's A-List, with musicians whose accolades include two International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Female Vocalist of the Year awards and two Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album (Claire); the MerleFest Doc Watson Guitar Champion (Matt Wingate); two IBMA Bass Player of the Year awards (Mark Schatz) and an unprecedented triple first-place win at the Winfield Kansas National Flatpicking Championship on guitar, fiddle and mandolin (Bryan McDowell) Claire's musical direction dates back to the days of the Front Porch String Band, resulting in a seasoned sound that is simultaneously unpretentious and richly textured. It's a down-home, front porch sensibility until you realize that it's a rare front porch, indeed, that has ever hosted musicians of this caliber. The band is grounded by bassist Mark Schatz's deft touch and masterful instinct for groove. North Carolina native Bryan McDowell brings gifted chops that reveal a captivating style and a balanced intellect. And Matt Wingate is a remarkably soulful young gun whose mature improvisational musicality is seemingly far beyond his years, making him instantly at home in one of the greatest acoustic bands currently on the scene. Dolly Parton credits Claire with "one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today." Claire's harmonies have graced the recordings of many stellar musicians, from Ralph Stanley to Linda Ronstadt. Equally gifted as a songwriter, her songs have been recorded by The Seldom Scene, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Cherryholmes, The Whites and others. In 2005 Claire struck her second 3-album deal with Rounder Records. Since then, along with the help of these amazing musicians, she s toured with a vengeance and produced chart-topping recordings which yielded multiple IBMA nominations. This most recent phase of her career received an exclamation point in the wake of her newest release (Whatcha Gonna Do) when she was awarded the IBMA s Female Vocalist of the Year title for 2010. 3

Claire Lynch and the Claire Lynch Band are coming to Triple Creek RV on March 16, 2013 Tickets to go on sale immediately. Limited number available @ $10 each. Children 5 and under will get in for free. Further information about the evening to follow: opening band... Raffle of Blueridge guitar to benefit local humane shelter -- will be played and autographed by Claire!...and more! 4

Claire Lynch Biography Long recognized and praised as a creative force in acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer who continually pushes the boundaries of the bluegrass genre. The current Claire Lynch Band is a powerful juggernaut, a quartet that has the innate ability to perfectly interpret the beauty, subtlety, and genre-defying sophistication of Claire s music. Claire s career is fittingly bookended by two IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards: in 2010, in recognition of her current work with the Claire Lynch Band, and in 1997, for her influential work with the Front Porch String Band, and as a solo artist Blazing her own trail in the mid 70's when there were few role models for a young woman in the genre, Claire Lynch made history when she led the Front Porch String Band, which evolved in the 80 s and 90 s into one of the sharpest and most exciting post-modern bluegrass bands on the circuit. She formed her own Claire Lynch Band in 2005 and has consistently been a top pick of prestigious publications, critics and audiences across the nation ever since. Claire grew up in Kingston, N.Y. until the age of 12, when the family moved to Huntsville in northern Alabama. There she began her education in country music and got caught up in the bluegrass revival of the 1970's, joining a band called Hickory Wind. Later, the band changed its name to the Front Porch String Band with Claire s vocals as its centerpiece. In 1981, after their first nationally released recording, the group retired from the road, and Claire pursued dual careers in addition to raising a family. As a songwriter, her tunes have been recorded by such luminaries as Patty Loveless, The Seldom Scene, Cherryholmes, Kathy Mattea, the Whites and Stephanie Davis. At the same time, she became a much sought-after session vocalist In 1991, the Front Porch String Band was resurrected with the album, Lines and Traces, a move that ultimately led to the launching of Claire s solo career in earnest. Friends for a Lifetime was released in 1993 followed by Moonlighter in 1995 (Claire s first GRAMMY nomination) and Silver and Gold in 1997 (also nominated for GRAMMY glory). She was named the IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 1997 and enjoyed many chart successes. The band wrapped up the 20th century with the album Love Light, in 2000. At that time Claire took what she thought would be a full-fledged break from music, stepping away from the grind of daily touring. She wasn't sure when or if she would return. I never thought I'd come back. Then one day I opened my catalog of songs and realized that I'd written my life, she said. Little by little, the lure of music worked its way back. She sang harmony on The Grass is Blue and Little Sparrow which led to promotional touring as backup vocalist for Dolly Parton (Dolly has described Claire as "one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today.") She graced albums by other artists with her background vocals including Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Pam Tillis, Alison Brown, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and Ralph Stanley. Today, the impressive list of other guest appearances continues including spots on albums by Donna the Buffalo, Sara Watkins, the Gibson Brothers, Jonathan Edwards and Jesse Winchester. 6

In 2005, Lynch struck out on her own, forming the Claire Lynch Band and releasing the aptly named New Day CD. It was a hit on the bluegrass charts and earned her IBMA nominations for Song of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. In 2007, Rounder Records featured her brilliant catalog of music from her previous five albums on their label and titled the anthology collection, Crowd Favorites. More IBMA nominations followed as well as an induction into the Alabama Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Whatcha Gonna Do, Claire s most recent release (2009) has been called a strippeddown production with sumptuous acoustic atmospheres showcasing Lynch's awardwinning vocals and the instrumental brilliance of her four-piece band described by The Bluegrass Blog as what may be the best backing lineup of her career. After a busy touring schedule in 2010, Claire received three IBMA nominations including Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year, winning the 2010 trophy for Female Vocalist of the Year As one observer writes, Listening to Claire Lynch sing is not something to be undertaken casually. Her songs and stage presence demand the listener s rapt attention. She s an intensely soulful singer, whose distinctive voice resonates with power and strength, yet retains an engaging innocence and crystalline purity. She s also a songwriter of extraordinary ability who can bring listeners to their feet with her buoyant rhythms or to their knees with her sometimes almost unbearably poignant and insightful lyrics. (Dave Higgs, Bluegrass Now) The current Claire Lynch Band, in particular, has Claire animated and energized. Her career has come full circle: once again, she s a creative powerhouse at the top of her game, performing with one of the sharpest and most exciting post-modern bluegrass bands of the current decade. "Her original songs display her gifts as a songwriter of uncommon skill, and her outside song choices reinforce her artistic self, one who feels deeply about home, family, strength, resilience and courage." Mary Chapin Carpenter 7

Several of our Winter Texans are leaving the week of February 24. We will miss you., but we will leave the lights on for you to find your way back home! Ms Audrey recently took a spill and is currently home, but bound to a walker. Dudley is being the perfect guy as he waits on her. Stop by and see the set of stairs that he built for her to get home. Royce and Lynda had to temporarily leave Triple Creek and return to take care of things where their daughter was living. We don t know why, but they took Bubba too!. Royce was building the new picking shed, but now that will have to wait. Our neighbors at Winnaway Bed & Breakfast just put in a beautiful swimming pool. This is Bud & Beth s daughter. Stop in and take a look at what is going on over there. Bubba was going to call that home, but now he has moved off. Lela has sold her little Trailer to Tommy and has headed off to California. We will see her again. Lola has moved back to Lousiana. We believe that she was developing the Texas draw. Mark Lee (the other Marc), has acquired a job in town. He works Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights, so he is missing the games in the card room. Our Bluegrass weekend brought a LOT of new people. We had an absolutely great time. Karen s peacocks are starting to look like the fancy birds they are. They are old enough to have their colors, but they don t quite have all length in their feathers yet. 11

P a ge 12 T riple Creek RV Music Park Notice Airstream Club Visit We have been asked recently if we are going to have a stage show or a jam on weekends? We always strive to have a stage show. We prefer our musicians on stage so they can all be showcased However, we never know who is going to show up, or how many musicians will be here. Summer time is always slow, but come the winter, the Snowbirds come in, as well as the locals. Therefore, when the days get shorter and cooler, you can almost bet that we ll have more and more stage shows just like always. Thursday nights are always going to be a jam session. These are the nights that people are learning and practicing. After all, a jam session is a musical act where musicians play (Jam) by improvising without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements. Jam sessions here at Triple Creek are often used by musicians to develop new material, find suitable arrangements, or simply as a social gathering and communal practice session. Its these Thursday night Jam sessions where Floyd practices his new love songs as he looks in his Patricia s eyes and sings to her. Its also in these Thursday night sessions where people that are learning an instrument sit in the circle for the first time. So come out on Thursday nights for the jams, and then look forward to the returning of all the musicians for the Friday and Saturday night stage shows. Remember, shows and jams are FREE to the public, but we certainly appreciate donations that are used to buy supplies and keep the Volunteers You can thank the work campers for all that they do as well! They are all a big help to keep Triple Creek RV the wonderful place we all enjoy THANKS! Thanks to the many people that volunteer here at Triple Creek. If it wasn t for the volunteers and work campers...well, Triple Creek could not be the wonderful place it is. If you see someone pitching it, please take the time to thank them, because it is through the combined efforts of all of us that we can all call this place home. 12

Our Wi Fi Its just part of our family Triple Creek internet service is provided by satellite service from HughesNet. The HughesNet service is provide through a set of share resources. These resources must be shared across all HughesNet customers world wide. In order to protect the quality of service, Hughes implements a Fair Access Policy to ensure that heavy users do not take an unfair portion of the shared bandwidth. Triple Creek has the Commercial Account an has the largest amount of data (in bytes) which can be downloaded by a subscriber without restriction within a rolling 24-hour period. As anyone at Triple Creek downloads, the remaining allowance is depleted. HughesNet Fair Access Policy is implemented automatically by monitoring usage over a rolling 24-hour period. When our 24-hour access exceeds the allowance, we enter the Recovery Zone, and download speeds are drastically reduce. During this Recovery Zone, the Download Allowance is slowly replenished and after approximately 24 hours, download speed is restored. Here at Triple Creek, we all use the same system. Therefore, if one person consumes all the available resources, then all the users will experience very slow internet speed for 24 hours. So here is what you can do to contribute: 1. Online activities such as checking email and viewing Websites are unlikely to cause us to exceed our Download Allowance, so please feel free to access the internet for your use. 2. Streaming music, video s and pictures will most certainly consume our Download Allowance. Please do not do this, except during the off peak hours from 1:00 am to 6:00 am. 3. HughesNet gives us a Download Zone in the off peak hours from 1:00 am to 6:00 am. During this time, we can download data at full speed without counting against our Download Allowance. This can be done with a Download Manager where you automatically schedule your system This can be found at http://home.myhughesnet.com/services.php If you want to know more on this subject, see http://services.hughesnet.com/service_tools/fap/index.cfm Winnaway Bed & Breakfast Hosts: Susie & Dave Winn (Phone: 409-331-9944) 5681 FM 1746, Woodville, TX 75979 Web: www.winnawaybedbreakfast.com / FAX: 409-331-9906 E-Mail: susie_winn@yahoo.com The Winn s and their family have supported TCRV for years and are wonderful hosts! The mission of The Holy Family Surgery Center is to improve the availability, quality, and education of healthcare to the Honduran people who are most in need. More information about the orphanage can be found at www.nph.org. Additonal information about the the doctor that funded the orphanage initially is at: www.holyfamilysurgerycenter.org Welcome to our Triple Creek Ed & Helen! Their grand daughter Brittonia Chafiin lives in Honduras an volunteers The Holy Family Surgery Center. This is an ambulatory surgical facility located on the grounds of the Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH) Honduras home. Ed and Helen are doing their part by getting involved with the people s musical life. After all music is part of our sole. They collect musical instruments and then ship them to Honduras. Most the of the instruments have been donated by generous friends. They said they can definitely use more music supplies and instruments, and as our enrollment grows and as older equipment gives out, our need grows. We happily accept donations of used or new musical instruments and supplies. Donors may also send cash donations earmarked for our music program so that we can purchase equipment in Honduras.. Our Lord Jesus never spoke more plainly or more pointedly than when He said, "Whatever you do for these least brothers and sisters of mine, you do unto me" (Mt. 25:40). Jesus was serious about helping the poor. But Our Good Lord wasn't just giving a command, He was presenting an opportunity: when we reach out to help others, we are the ones who are truly blessed. That is the hope hidden in our Honduras Mission. We will encounter a mutual blessing: as we bless the people of Honduras with the treasures God has given us, they will bless us in return with the riches they have in abundance. And in the bargain, God will be glorified. Why Honduras? Honduras is the second poorest country in Latin America -- second only to Haiti. Reaching out to help them is truly helping the least brothers and sister of the Jesus." Please help Ed & Helen pass on the enjoyment of life with the sound of music. You can do this by donating your good musical instrument that you aren t using any longer. This can be accomplished by giving it to Karen here at Triple Creek, and once a year, everything that has been gathered will go to the children of the Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH) Honduras home. 17
