Windsr Campus Teaching Opprtunities PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & PROGRESSION The Dctr f Medicine (MD) prgram is a fur year prgram. Year One and Year Tw invlve didactic lectures, labratry experiences, small grup instructin, case based learning, simulatin and supervised clinical experiences. Year Three is a 52-week integrated clerkship where learners becme an active member f the clinical care team in the fllwing medical disciplines: Family Medicine, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gyneclgy, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery. Students in Year Three are required t cmplete a cmmunity Clinical Clerkship rtatin fr a minimum f fur weeks. The curriculum in Year Fur (Term One) Clinical Science Electives (16 weeks) is arranged entirely by the students in any area f medicine at the Schulich Schl f Medicine & Dentistry, as well as centers within Canada and abrad. The curriculum in Year Fur (Term Tw) is Integratin & Transitin (16 weeks). Year 1 and 2 bserverships are an excellent way t get a firsthand lk at the spectrum f illness in the cmmunity and t see the rle f family physicians in the health care system. The timing can be very flexible and wrked ut between the physician and student. Observerships are nrmally a half day r a few hurs in duratin. Nn-credit Pre-clerkship Summer Clinical Elective (NPSCE): A clinical learning pprtunity during which a student receives at minimum f 30 hurs f clinical instructin while interacting with patients in a clinical setting. It invlves shadwing, bserving, and participatin in patient care under strict supervisin by a legally licensed medical practitiner (preceptr). Nn-credit Pre-clerkship Summer Research Elective (NPSRE): A structured research learning pprtunity during which a student wrks a minimum f fur weeks with a faculty supervisr in a research setting. Cmbined Nn-credit Pre-clerkship Summer Clinical and Research Elective (NPSCRE): A Cmbined NPSCRE is primarily fr students invlved in a research prject but wh wuld als like t accmpany the same preceptr during their clinical duties n intermittent days. YEAR 3 CLERKSHIP (Medicine 5475) The Clinical Clerkship is a single curse f 8 curse weights. Sixteen weeks f Clinical Science Electives will be chsen in areas f interest t the students. Further infrmatin regarding this part f the curriculum will be prvided separately. Clinical teaching pprtunities are available INTEGRATION & TRANSITION (Medicine 5402) After cmpletin f clinical science electives, students return t Schulich Medicine fr the Integratin & Transitin curse t incrprate the scientific and clinical aspects f medicine in light f their clinical experience.
