MINI-RESIDENCY IN ORAL IMPLANTOLOGY A comprehensive program that includes didactic components with a live surgical modules where participants perform surgeries under the mentorship of UB faculty. All participants have to place at least 5 implants prior to completion. The first three modules will be conducted in India and the final Module will be held at Univ. Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, Buffalo, NY where participants have to attend a MCQ exam to graduation. A unique certificate program offered in association with University at Buffalo is designed to enable clinicians introduce implant related surgeries in their everyday practice. This clinical and didactic based program will give the participants a high level of interaction with both local and international faculty to enhance diagnostic, surgical and prosthetic skills through evidence based learning methodology. This comprehensive program includes over 200 hours of classroom & online didactic components and a live surgical module where participants will perform surgeries under the mentorship of DACE and UB faculty. All participants have to complete at least 2 clinical cases prior to graduation. The first three modules will be conducted in India and the final Module will be held at University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, Buffalo. Module 1 and Module 3 will be conducted at various centers in India while Module 2 is conducted at the DACE Center in Bangalore.
COURSE AGENDA / MODULES Module 1 Introduction to Implants 8-10 Feb, 2019 The introductory module will introduce basics with a brief history and evloution of implant dentistry. The module runs for 3 days with several didactic & hands-on sessions on models/pig jaws. This Comprehensive module will give clinicians a high confidence level to kick-start their implant practice. COURSE AGENDA / MODULES Module 2 Surgical Exercise 20-23 March, 2019 The second module runs for 4 days and includes didactic /hands-on sessions followed by live patient surgeries featuring a Live Demo by DACE Faculty. Each participant will place 2-3 implants on patients mentored by University Buffalo faculty. Sterilization & Surgical principles will be covered in depth and all course materials will be provided including implants/biologics/sutures etc. Exercises include: Simple posterior implant placements Simple posterior immediate implants Single tooth GBR surgeries Socket Preservation Surgeries Simple Sinus Augmentations Single tooth ridge expansion techniques Biomaterial Basics: classification, indications, features and benefits Surgical sterilization protocols
COURSE AGENDA / MODULES Module 3 Restoration Aspects 14-16 June, 2019 This module is entirely dedicated to participants doing second stage covering soft-tissue concepts & implant prosthodontics on patients mentored by faculty. This module will feature morning didactic sessions and afternoon clinical sessions. KNOW YOUR FACULTY Dr. Sebastiano Andreana Dr. Sebastiano Andreana is the Director of Implant Dentistry at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Presently he is on the faculty at the AAID Toronto Maxi Course and co-director of the UBSDM Implant Study Club. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Periodontology, Journal of the American Dental Association, Clinical Implant Dentistry Related Research, and Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He is also senior associate editor of Journal of Oral Implantology. Dr. Andreana has published over 100 articles, both nationally and internationally, and presented over 100 research abstracts. Dr. Rod Stewart Dr. Rod Stewart is a 1983 graduate of the University of Toronto, he maintains a general dental practice in Hamilton, Ontario with a focus on advanced dental reconstructive treatment. He is a member of the AAID Maxicourse Committee and Admissions & Credentialing Board, a former Trustee of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, former Councillor of the Ontario Dental Association, District Officer of the AAID and a part time clinical instructor at the University of Buffalo, Dr. Joseph Zambon Dr. Joseph Zambon, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Periodontics and Endodon- tics, Joseph J. Zambon, DDS, PhD, has been named Dean of the School of Dental Medicine, June 2016. Professor Zambon has been a UB faculty member in the School of Dental Medicine since 1982. He currently serves as Associate Dean for Advanced Education and Faculty Advancement. A nationally and internationally-recognized authority on periodontal pathogens and an experienced clinician, Professor Zambon is a prolific and well-funded researcher whose contributions have been recognized by numerous awards and honors. Dr. Gary Alexander Dr. Gary J. Alexander was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. He received his D.D.S. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1981. He then completed its postgraduate program in prosthodontics and received a Certificate of Proficiency in Fixed Prosthodontics in 1983. Dr. Alexander is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics & the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. He currently is the clinical assistant professor in the Dept. of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. John Balikowski Mr. John Balikowski III, graduated from Erie Community College with an Associate Degree in Dental Technology. He continued his tenure in the family-owned, Balikowski Dental Laboratory for 14 yrs, after which he opened a digital dental lab specializing in CAD CAM dentistry. Currently Mr. Balikowski is the Digital Integration Specialist with the Department of Restorative Dentistry and is also involved in scanning, designing and milling of all ceramic dental prosthetics. Dr. Jennifer Kuracina Dr. Kuracina completed a general practice residency at Millard Fillmore Hospital, and received her certificate in combined prosthodontics at the SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at that institution, where she teaches in a number of courses in prosthodontics and implant dentistry for dental students and residents in the Postgraduate Program in Prosthodontics. She has provided continuing education courses to dentists on a number of topics in restorative dentistry.
KNOW YOUR FACULTY Dr. Latifa Bairam Dr. Latifa Bairam is a Clinical Assistance Professor of Prosthodontics and is a full time faculty at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine, SUNY at Buffalo. She received a Certificate of Residency in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She is a clinic group leader, teaching preclinical and clinical courses of fixed, removable and implant dentistry. Dr. Praveen Arany Praveen R Arany completed a joint PhD-Residency program at Harvard University as a Harvard Presidential Scholar. He has two certificates in clinical translational research from Harvard Medical School and National Institute of Health. He pursued postdoctoral fellowships at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore; National Cancer Institute, Bethesda and Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences & Wyss Institute, Cambridge. He is currently an Assistant Professor, Oral Biology, School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, New York. Dr. Gaurav Malik After graduating in 2002 and clearing his australian licencing exam in 2003, he post graduated in periodontics and oral implantology and has worked and trained with Opinion Leaders in world of dentistry. He did his Post Graduate certification on "All On 4" - Prof Paulo Malo and diploma from Miami Medical And Research Institute, Lisbon Portugal. Further he did Advanced implantology and physiological prosthetics from Germany. He is also trained with ITI curriculum from university of Hong Kong. His main focus is on Special need dentistry, Dental Management of patients with complicated medical problems and Dental needs and care for elderly. Currently he is Director and Head, Department of dentistry, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali (Chandigarh). Dr. Tarun Kumar Dr. Tarun Kumar graduated from Kuvempu University and followed it up with Masters in Periodontology from Rajiv Gandhi University. He lives and practices in Davangere and is the Associate Dean of Academics at Bapuji Dental College & Hospital. He is a a diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He focuses on advances in Implant Dentistry at the Bapuji Implant Centre and is actively involved with research with several multi-national companies. Dr. Narayan TV Dr. Narayan graduated from Ambedkar Dental College, Bengaluru in 1992 and pursued his masters in Oral Pathology at Nair Hospital and Dental College, Mumbai. He has over 16 years of teaching experience. He is a Fellow and Diplomate of the ICOI and is also the director for ITI study club in Bengaluru. His lives and practices in Bengaluru with focus on Implant and graft related surgeries. He has lectured extensively and is renowned and respected for his command in both theory and clinical applications. Dr. Febel Huda Dr. Febel Huda presently working as implantologist and prosthodontist in Cochin implant institute along with Dr. Jaibin George. He furthered his education by completing Clinical Mastership in Implant Dentistry from School of Dental Medicine, Stony Brook University, USA. He is the founder director of Cochin Implant Institute and has mentored and conducted several courses on implants. He is also an ICOI diplomate. He has his private practice in Cochin and has consultant implantologist positions in Oman, Zimbabwe and various dental offices in India. Dr. Komal Majumdar Dr. Komal Majumdar graduated from GDC Mumbai and completed her Clinical Mastership in Oral Implantology from State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is a Diploate of the ICOI and ISOI. She has won several awards including 'Outstanding Dentist of the Year' & implantologist of the year' by Famdent. She practices in Navi Mumbai with an exclusive focus on implants. She is part of various implant education courses. Dr. Amol Thorat Dr. Amol thorat completed his MDS in Prosthodontics from GDC Mumbai in 2003. He completed advanced training in surgical implantology from germany in 2006, Implant Externship from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and graduated the Clinical Mastership in Implant Dentistry program from Atlanta USA in 2015. He is also fellow and diplomate at ICOI and ISOI. He is Professor and heads Dept of Prosthodontocs & implantology, and practises implantology for the last 11 yrs Dr. Paresh Kale Dr Paresh Kale [M.D.S. (Bom.)] is a Prosthodontist and Implantologist since 16 years. He is specialized for the treatments like Cosmetic Dentistry, Full Mouth Rehabilitation, Implants Dentistry and Prosthetic Dentistry. He is active member of Academy of Osseointegration and life member of Indian Prosthodontic Society Indian Society of Oral Implantologists. He is faculty member of Smile Care Mumbai affiliated to New York University. Dr. Kishan Dr. Kishan is a consultant implantologist based out of Bangalore. He has completed his masters in maxillofacial surgery in 2006. Obtained training in microvascular surgery from AIMS, Cochin, in 2009. He followed it up with fellowship and diplomate from ICOI in 2014. Completed his Masters in Oral Implantology at DACE and the New York State University, with externship at Dental XP in 2015. Trained in the All on 4 concept with Nobel in 2017 and pterygoid and zygomatic implants in 2018. His teaching career spans 12 years as a post graduate teacher of maxillofacial surgery with active interest in Implantology.
