June 24, 2017 EVENT BEGINS AT: DAY 1 SESSION TITLE DESCRIPTION PRESENTER NAME RANCH OR COMPANY AFFILIATION WINGS OF HOPE RANCH 14505 WEST PATRICK HENRY ROAD, MONTPELIER NOTE: We start at Wings of Hope to have our horse related sessions in the cooler part of the day Montpelier, VA www.wingsofhoperanch.org 8:00-8:45 am Breakfast and Fellowship Welcome Prayer and then free time to eat and get to know the other attendees and speakers at this informal breakfast. 8:45-9:40 am Worthy Boundaries This session will be held at with our rescue horses. Rachel will walk you through groundwork exercises that will assist you to build respectful relationships. Establishing worthy boundaries will help you to demonstrate the value of each individual, intentionally build healthy relationships and recognize violations of respect. This "hands on horse session will focus on simple horsemanship in the context of ranch sessions, human relationships and building a vigilant foundation for kids who have yet to face those risks or those who are walking out of a previous trauma. 9:45-10:15 am Family Sessions: A Demonstration 10:15-10:45 am BREAK The team from Glory Reins Ranch will demonstrate a unique program they utilize at their ranch ministry called "Family Sessions. This is a special time for families to come together for a fun bonding experience with each other and the horses. Volunteers are matched with a family member for a unique family session experience. During this quality time and opportunity, they hope the dynamic between parent/guardian and child will be strengthened through encouragement, games and fellowship. Glory Reins will be bringing their staff members, including a couple of their horses to demonstrate this session. Use this time to travel the 2 miles from at 14505 West Patrick Henry Road, Montpelier VA, 23192 to Shalom House Retreat Center 15340 Robert Terrell Rd, Montpelier, VA 23192. Transportation will be provided for those that need it. 11:45-12:40 pm Understanding How To Work With Special Needs Children and Young Adults As we grow our programs and encounter so many different Wendy Atkisson types of children, with all kinds of special needs, we need to stay on top of the latest information, share it with our volunteers.and stay sensitive to the needs of our rancher families. With these goals in mind, Wendy, an Occupational Therapist, shares the latest research and knowledge that will help us to be effective in our ministry to the children and young adults with special needs who are a part of our programs. Wendy has extensive experience and insight to help us navigate working with children on the Autism Spectrum, children with Sensory Issues and other very common challenges. This information is absolutely on the cutting edge and will benefit all of us in our daily interactions with the families we serve. Wendy is knowledgeable not only due to her profession as an O.T. but also from her experience designing and implementing a unique Sunday School program at her church for families with special needs children. This program is now in high demand in churches across the state and country as it addresses a growing need of families desperate to be in church and community. 2:45-3:40 pm Disciple-Making: Mentoring with a Purpose: Brad will share how to truly mentor the youth that come to your ranches in hopes of making them disciples. Using strategies to bring Christ in to each session and activity at the ranch, under Brads direction, Crystal Peaks program seeks to honor God and inspire those visiting to seek a closer walk with Jesus. This session will help to prepare you and your staff members to maximize your influence in turning more lives towards Christ. Brad Shultz Program Director and Session Leader Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch 3:50-4:45 pm Even Jesus Had A Succession Plan! Joy will share how they incorporate their faith in to every part of their business plan at The Red Barn. Every great non-profit and ministry should have a succession plan (even Jesus had one with the disciples)! Joy will teach on how to design your own succession plan. Joy will also discuss the lessons she has learned about taking their organization from Good to Great. Not only does The Red Barn offer ministry sessions for children called Saddle Up, but they also offer a program called Horse Play which is like a traditional summer camp, Instructor Training and Certifications and a special program for Veterans called Take the Reins. The Red Barn is a Premiere Accredited Center of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) and hosts seminars and trainings frequently. Additionally, their instructors and staff have received extensive training and certifications used to create their programs. For example, they have experience in PATH, The Horse Boy, American Hippotherapy Association, EAP, Ok Corral, and many more. Joy will share her best advice with us as we start and grow our ministries. Over Elizabeth Loving the last two years at Hope Reins, we have used Natural Horsemanship to transition from having burned out horses and overwhelmed session leaders, to having happy horses, and leaders equipped to serve our children more powerfully than ever before. In this active workshop with horses, Elizabeth Love, Equine Manager, will teach you how to use Natural Horsemanship to take your sessions to a deeper place. Only God could piece together lives in His perfect timing to do His work. Kathleen has come across many insurance issues in her career relating to the various forms of equine therapies currently popular including: The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH formerly NARHA), Hippotherapy, Ranch Ministries, Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). Kathleen will be able to give you information on each but also help you discern what is involved if you choose to include or pursue any of these practices at your ranch.
