Yu use CPAP r BIPAP r have been diagnsed with sleep apnea. Yu weigh ver 300 lbs. r have a BMI (bdy mass index) ver 45. If yu are pregnant r think yu may be pregnant. If yu take pain medicatins, anti-anxiety medicatins, psychiatric medicatins, use medical marijuana, r recreatinal drugs. If yu need t cancel r reschedule yur appintment. Patients n bld thinners If yu use Aggrenx, Arixtra, Brilinta, Effient, Eliquis, Plavix, Pletal, Pradaxa, Ticlid, Xarelt, r any bld thinner (anticagulant) r an anti-platelet drug, mst patients need t stp taking these 5 days prir t prcedure. Please speak with yur physician wh rders this medicatin befre stpping. If yu use a bld thinner named Cumadin, Warfarin, r Jantven yu will need special instructins abut stpping this drug befre the prcedure. The timing f this is very imprtant! If yu are fllwed by the Cumadin Clinic, please cntact the Sayre Cumadin Clinic at 570-887- 2200 fr instructins befre stpping, t see if they prefer that yu use an alternative anticagulant. If yu are NOT fllwed by the Cumadin Clinic, please cntact yur physician wh rders this fr instructins. Diabetic patients If yu take a pill t lwer yur sugar, d nt take it n the day f yur prcedure. If yu are taking regular Insulin r NPH, d nt take it n the day f yur prcedure. If yu are taking any ther insulin preparatin such as Lantus, Humalg, r 70/30 insulin: It is recmmended yu take a ½ dse the evening prir t yur prcedure and n dse the day f yur prcedure. We recmmend yu have prducts with and withut sugar n hand at hme t keep yur bld glucse in balance during the preparatin perid. 2
Get prepared (1-2 weeks befre the prcedure) Supplies t purchase Yu will need t fill the prescriptin fr MviPrep prvided t yu at yur lcal pharmacy prir t yur prcedure. Yu will als need t purchase generic simethicne (Gas-X) tablets-yu will need 4 tablets fr this prep. D nt drink any liquids that are red r purple. Clear Liquid Suggestins: Gatrade, Pedialyte, r Pwerade Cffee r tea withut creamer Carbnated and nn-carbnated sft drinks Kl-Aid r ther fruit-flavred drinks Apple juice, white cranberry juice, r white grape juice Jell-O, ppsicles Chicken, beef, r vegetable brth Sedatin requires that patients make transprtatin arrangements Please be aware that yu will be receiving sedatin fr yur prcedure. It will limit what yu can d after yur prcedure until the fllwing day. ALL ENDOSCOPY PATIENTS MUST HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER Due t sedatin medicatin, it is unlawful t drive until the fllwing day after a prcedure and is cnsidered driving under the influence f drugs (DUI), a punishable ffense. It is required that all endscpy patients have a designated driver (18 years r lder) available t drive the patient hme after their prcedure. Yu may nt take public transprtatin unless accmpanied by smene 18 years f age r lder. 3
Get started (5 days befre the prcedure) 5 days befre yur prcedure, stp taking: Irn/multivitamins: Stp irn (such as ferrus sulfate) r vitamins cntaining irn. Fiber supplements: Stp fiber supplements such as Metamucil, Citrucel. Bld Thinners: If yu use Aggrenx, Arixtra, Brilinta, Effient, Eliquis, Plavix, Pletal, Pradaxa, Ticlid, Xarelt, r any bld thinner (anticagulant) r anti-platelet drug: mst patients need t stp taking these 5 days prir t prcedure. Please refrain frm eating raw/uncked fruits and vegetables, nuts, small seeds and ppcrn 5 days befre yur prcedure. Please nte that Aspirin r NSAID S such as Advil, Ibuprfen, Aleve d NOT need t be stpped prir t yur prcedure. Prcedure day reminders (review 5 days prir, and day f) Medicatin n the day f yur prcedure D NOT take bld thinners, see page 2. Diabetics, see page 2. Yu may take ther medicatins (including pain medicatins, anti-anxiety medicatins, and bld pressure medicatins) with a small sip f water. Take inhaler as prescribed if needed in the mrning. What t bring A list f yur current medicatins, yur insurance card, and Pht ID Hearing aids, inhaler, and/r ilestmy r clstmy supplies (as applicable) Wear cmfrtable, lse fitting clthing Please leave all valuables at hme. Cell phnes and tablets are nt allwed after yu enter the patient care area and must be turned ff until after discharge. This is fr the privacy f all ur patients. Transprtatin & Discharge Yu must have a driver 18 years f age r lder with a valid driver s license fr this prcedure. Yu may nt take public transprtatin unless accmpanied by smene 18 years f age r lder. If smene is picking yu up, we must be able t cntact them by phne befre yur prcedure. We will nt cntinue with yur prcedure until we cnfirm with yur driver by talking t them. Yu shuld plan n being at ur facility fr a minimum f 2-3 hurs fr yur appintment. Please plan accrdingly, as delays may ccur. 4
The day befre yur prcedure: Befre 8:00 AM: Yu may have a light breakfast, such as tast and cffee. After 8:00 AM: Yu may nly have clear liquids. Increase yur fluid intake t at least 6-8 glasses f clear liquids tday. This will help lessen stmach cramping. Starting at 4:00 PM: T prepare the first dse fllw the mixing directins n MviPrep package and refrigerate the mixture. At 5:00 PM Drink 6-8 z. f the MviPrep rapidly, at 15-minute intervals; this shuld take abut an hur t drink t cmplete the first mixture f the prep. After yu finish drinking the MviPrep take 1 simethicne tablets. Yu may cntinue t drink clear liquids until midnight. Blating and nausea are cmmn after the first few glasses f MviPrep, this is temprary and will imprve nce bwel mvements start. Rarely, peple may have nausea r vmiting with the prep. If this ccurs, give yurself a 30 t 90-minute break, rinse yur muth r brush yur teeth, then cntinue drinking the prep slutin. Stmach cramping and diarrhea are nrmal frm taking the prep. Anal skin irritatin r a flare f hemrrhid inflammatin may ccur. If this happens, treat it with ver-the-cunter-remedies, such as hydr-crtisne cream, baby wipes, Vaseline, r TUCKS pads. Avid prducts cntaining alchl. If yu have a prescriptin fr hemrrhid cream, yu may use it. Please d nt use suppsitries. At 7:00 PM: Prepare the secnd dse f the MviPrep fr tmrrw mrning. Fllw the mixing directins n the MviPrep package and refrigerate. On the day f yur prcedure: Review prcedure day reminders, page 4 At 4:00 AM: Begin drinking the remaining MviPrep mixture. Yu must finish the prep by 5:15 am. After yu finish drinking the MviPrep take 1 simethicne tablets. Yu may take yur medicatins with a small sip f water. If yur appintment is scheduled AFTER 12:00 PM (NOON) yu may have clear liquids until 10:00 AM. Yu may brush yur teeth. 3/2019 5
