RIT Better Me Fitness Classes Fall Semester 2014 All fitness levels are welcome in any of our classes; modifications can be made for all exercises. Aquafit- Aquafit helps condition and tone your heart, body, mind and spirit with fun and fluid exercises that target muscles for endurance, strength, flexibility, range of motion and balance. This class uses water resistance techniques and a variety of equipment, both in deep and shallow water to allow participants to get a rejuvenating, invigorating and effective work-out. Swimming skills are not necessary. Aqua Challenge- Take your work out to another level. Water provides the perfect mix: added resistance to burn more calories and to tighten and tone yet remains easy on the joints. Come learn to work the water and experience the aqua revolution! Aqua Dynamics- Go with the flow. Enjoy fun cardio movement to burn calories while emphasizing core training and flexibility. Boot Camp- Boot Camp style training is performance based strength cardio intervals combining cardiovascular and strength activities. Participants can expect to improve their general fitness by increasing agility, endurance and stamina, muscle strength and balance, core stability and overall change in body composition. Group dynamics help to improve motivation, encourage success and take your workouts to the next level. Circuit Training- This class will contain cardio, weight training, agility and overall conditioning. Although the class is designed for an intermediate fitness level, the instructor can make modifications for the beginner. This class will help the participant understand different exercises using typical workout equipment utilizing the indoor studio and different locations outside. Participants should be prepared for both settings. Exercise Selection and performance: A Joint by Joint Approach This class is taught in the Weidman fitness center and utilizes myriad equipment and techniques. Participants will learn not just how to properly perform exercises, but the why. Taking a more in-depth approach to a tradition fitness class will help participants create their own training programs and learn how to address individual concerns and goals.

Fundamentals- Are you a novice or just need to reinvent your workout? Mix it up and learn new techniques that you can apply to your workout while keeping it interesting. This class is for everyone from beginners to those who need to be motivated! Healthy Back and Core- This class is designed to help understand better back health. Learn step-by-step how to build a stronger core, decrease pain and enhance your flexibility. H 2 O Cardio Sculpt- Intervals of cardio combined with intervals of strength provides the ultimate equation for a well-balanced workout in a condensed amount of time. This 45 minute class will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of your day! Performance Rehab (Low Back and more)- This class is taught in the Weidman fitness center and utilizes myriad equipment and techniques. Participants will learn how to fix every day aches and pains, learn how to prevent future injury through strengthening, leaning proper movement patterns, and improve overall performance for everyday life, at work and at play. Pilates- Pilates is a blend of classical moves with a focus on joint strength, balance, posture and coordination. It will challenge the central nervous system and leave participants energized and centered. The focus will be on functional application of all movement and strengthening the entire kinetic chain. Spinning- Spinning is a high intensity cardiovascular workout that uses many different techniques on the bike. Motivating music and coaching make it a fun, exciting workout. This class is not recommended for beginners. Water bottle and towel are recommended. Spin and Sculpt- Spin & Sculpt class combines a moderate- to high-intensity spinning workout along with body toning exercises. This interval style class incorporates traditional moves on the bike along with strength training off the bike. A variety of dumbbells, body bars, balls and more will be used to sculpt in this total body workout. This is a great class for both beginners and seasoned riders who are looking for the benefit of a combination cardio and strength training class. Every class will be different! Water Wellness: Hydro Cardio and Strength Get fit in the pool! Take advantage of the natural resistance of the water to progressively build your cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility. This invigorating workout will include intervals of cardio combinations and toning exercises. Fun, challenging and suitable for all fitness levels. Water shoes recommended, but not required.

Yoga (various styles)- Yoga includes a variety of stretches, standing poses, forward bends, backbends, and twists, with the objective of improving posture, flexibility, strength, and balance. Classes end with a resting pose. Various breathing techniques will be explored, and some inverted poses (headstand and shoulder stand) will be introduced. Zumba- Zumba is a dance and cardio-based fitness class. Zumba will target glutes, legs, arms, abs and the heart and the routine aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. This class is high energy with motivating music to provide a partylike atmosphere. Participation in Better Me fitness and wellness programs is voluntary and participants assume all risks, known and unknown, inherent to exercise and workout programs and/or injuries which may result from participation in such activities. It is recommended that you consult with your personal physician before starting any exercise or fitness program.

RIT Better Me Fitness Instructors Fall Semester 2014 Lisa Barbato- Lisa Barbato is a certified group exercise instructor through the YMCA and AIT (aerobics interval training). Her passion is helping people of all age ranges to live a healthier, more active lifestyle. Lisa is in her final year as a Sport Management major with a minor in Recreation and Leisure at The College of Brockport. She also works part-time for the Rochester Knighthawks. Her classes are high energy, sweatsoaked, and rewarding. Lisa s philosophy on exercise and wellness is simply, "Education leads to success. Eating smart and exercising is the key to a healthy life." She takes into consideration that every person is at a different fitness level; she will work to push you to your own personal limit. In her spare time Lisa loves to play volleyball, yoga, kickboxing, and cycling. Stephanie Betzwieser- Stephanie Betzwieser is a certified Pilates instructor trained in classic mat Pilates. She completed her 100 hours of Pilates Teacher training through the former Highland Park Body works (now Hana Pilates) from trainer, and second generation Pilates Instructor, Meghan Cameron. Steph has been apprenticing since July of 2012 and have been a teacher since December of 2012. She teaches students of all age groups and at all levels of Pilates. Steph became interested in Pilates while a student herself here at R.I.T. Within the last few years she became more and more interested in fitness, staying in shape, and eating healthy. All of this lead her to want to show and teach others how to do the same. Steph includes other elements in her classes other than classical mat Pilates. She likes to use weights and balance balls to mix up the regular routine. She likes to challenge her students to work hard, and to ultimately challenge themselves and help her students become fit and healthy. Amanda Burns- Amanda Burns is a certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. In college Amanda started her fitness career by becoming certified in Yoga through YogaFit. She began teaching classes in the evenings and on weekends and when she graduated from college earned her Personal Training certification. Since then Amanda has had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of people and has been able to help change their lifestyles, something she truly enjoys. Steve Case- Steve is certified through the AFAA as a Personal Trainer, as well as a Zumba instructor, Aqua Zumba, and Senior Fit instructor through Excellus. Steve has been teaching Zumba and Aqua Zumba since 2009. Steve feels fitness and exercise are essential for a healthier and longer life. It increases your energy and helps you physically, mentally, and spiritually. There is no better way to either begin or end your day. Steve believes that once a person experiences wellness in their lives, just by adding fitness and exercise to their daily routine, they will commit to be fit.

Karen Culley- Karen has been teaching Zumba for 4 years. Her philosophy about fitness is "keep it moving and have fun!" She has been passionate about fitness all of her life. She is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, former track and field middle distance runner. Her certifications include Zumba Basic 1 and 2, CPR. Karen is originally from New York City. She is also a Therapist for Unity Health. Come out and have some fun, shake it! Arthur DiAntonio- Art holds a PhD in Biomechanics from John Hopkins University and is the owner of Body Maintenance Precision Training. He has over 25 years of experience in sports performance training, rehabilitation training, and general health and fitness training. He hold athletic records himself and has trained high level athletes (NFL, NHL, Olympic) as well as designed many successful programs for disease management (Diabetes, Cancer, Parkinson s, Osteoporosis, etc.) Art is extremely passionate about helping other feel and perform at their best using scientifically proven methodologies and techniques. Cindy Eddington- Cindy is a Certified Yoga Therapist and Life Coach; she has been practicing yoga since 1999. Her first interest in yoga began as a way to reduce stress and to get off the hamster wheel of do more-be more. As a fitness buff she wanted something that would strengthen my body but was also searching for something that would soothe her soul. She found yoga to be a path that provided a true connection between the body, the mind and the spirit. Her passion is to bring yoga to people who are searching for the same. Kathy Herrmann- Rachel Miller- Keith O Connor- Keith graduated from Marymount University (DC) with a bachelor's degree in Health & Fitness Management and Promotion and maintains a personal training certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Keith played and later coached soccer at Plattsburgh State before transferring to Marymount and incorporates sport-performance elements into one-on-one and class sessions. Emphasis is also placed on the balance between all fitness components, hard work and fun. Keith currently works with a wide variety of fitness clients and several young athletes in the Rochester and Finger Lakes area. Keith measures his own success by success of his clients. Dana Pierce- Dana is a proud alumna of RIT with her graduate degree in human resource development and undergraduate degree in hospitality management. She is a certified Spinning Instructor as of February, 2014. Dana enjoys fitness and encouraging people to be active. In addition to spinning, Dana runs in numerous races varying in length from 5K-half marathon as well as plays volleyball. She is high in energy and her optimism is contagious! She is also a huge foodie and enjoys wine. Melissa Rosintoski- Melissa graduated with a double major in Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology and is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. She wants to help bring a healthier lifestyle to everyone by making daily activity enjoyable. Michelle Seger- Michelle is a certified Spinning instructor and has been teaching classes at RIT since 2012. An avid runner, she has run many road races of varying distances, including 5K, 10K and half marathon distance. She enjoys cross training with indoor cycling, boot camp, and strength training exercises. Michelle has a passion for fitness, and enjoys encouraging and motivating people to fulfill healthy lifestyles and reach their fitness goals.
