June 2016 Dear We are currently looking for new sponsors for the 2017 Toowoomba Relay For Life which will be held at Queens Park on 20 21 May 2017. Last year Relay For Life in Toowoomba attracted more than 1400 registered participants and raised over $172,000, a truly amazing achievement of the organising committee and the community! Relay For Life is an important event to the community as it gives us an opportunity to Celebrate those are going through or have been through a cancer journey, to Remember those that we have lost from cancer, and to Fight Back for a cancer free future. Over the past 16 years Toowoomba Relay For Life has raised over $1.7 million dollars which has been invested into research and support services for Queenslanders going through a cancer. In 2015, 804 calls to 13 11 20 were answered for cancer support and information in the South West Queensland region alone. It is services like this that would not be possible without your support, the community and events such as Relay For Life. In 2017 the Toowoomba Committee hope to again raise over $150,000 and we hope that you will be able to help us achieve that. Let s finish the fight against cancer! Yours Sincerely, Jillian Huth Relay For Life Coordinator, South West Queensland Cancer Council Queensland Ph: 07 4690 5816 M: 0457 384 961 E: jillianhuth@cancerqld.org.au Shop 7, High Street Shopping Centre, 52 High Street, Rangeville QLD 4350 All Queenslander, all cancers. www.relayforlife.org.au Page 2
What is Relay For Life? Cancer Council Queensland s (CCQ) Relay For Life is a life-changing event which brings people together to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower individuals and communities to fight back against a disease that takes too much. Teams of 10-15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to camp out at a local high school, park, or showground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events, and each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times. Why we Relay Everyone s reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. Each person who shares the Relay experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten the lives of our loved ones or claim another year of anyone s life. What makes Relay so unique? Relay For Life gives us an opportunity to Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back. Relay starts with a Survivors and Carers Lap an inspirational time when Survivors and their Carers are invited to walk the first lap together and celebrate their victory over cancer. This lap is followed by an Afternoon Tea where they get to reflect together as a group about their battle against cancer and why they are here today. At dusk, we honour people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Candlelight Ceremony. Candles are lit in small bags bearing personal messages to loved ones who have battled cancer and placed around the track. They burn into the night, honouring and Remember those who have been lost and lighting a path of HOPE. The event closes with the upbeat Fight Back Ceremony, where participants make a personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer. One third of all cancers are preventable through adopting a healthier lifestyle. www.cancerqld.org.au Page 3

Sponsorship Options There is a range of options for businesses to support Relay For Life either as a corporate sponsor in the form of a monetary donation, as a community or media sponsor in promoting the event or by in-kind donations of products or services to reduce the costs of staging the event. Now is right time Cancer Council Queensland needs your support to help us achieve our mission of a cancer free future. But we still have a long way to go: Cancer remains the #1 cause of death for people in their prime working years Cancer accounts for three times the number of deaths caused by alcohol, car accidents, illegal drugs, suicide, homicide, fire and AIDS combined. 1 in every 2 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85 years. www.relayforlife.org.au Page 4
