Of the positives, Influenza A accounted for 7% (221) of the cases followed by RSV with 20% (60), and Influenza B 3% (9). Adenovirus and parainfluenza accounted for 1% () of the cases each. The percentage of influenza-like illness visits in the Active Duty population increased by 23% when compared to the previous week. Three influenzarelated hospitalizations were reported in DRSI during week 2 (2 Non-AD & 1 AD). Leadership should continue to encourage proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette in addition to urging troops to seek medical attention for influenza-like symptoms. GEOGRAPHIC SPREAD In the civilian population, widespread influenza activity was reported by 30 states and Guam. This has been steady since last week s report. Regional influenza activity was reported to the CDC by Puerto Rico and 16 states, local activity was reported by 3 states, and sporadic activity was reported by the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, and one state (Hawaii). There were no areas that failed to report. Fifty-five percent (27) were in the 18-29 age range. Remaining cases were are follows: 15 (31%) that were ages 30-39, 5 (10%) ages 0-9, and 2 (%) were ages 50-59. Non-AD: Of the 29 positive specimens among non-ad individuals, 62% (155) were in individuals less than 18 years old, while 13% (33) occurred in those over the age of 60. To date, 9% (622) of the 126 positive specimens, this season, are attributable to those under 18. Of the three cases, 1 was AD. In the same week last season, 22 influenza associated hospitalizations had been reported. So far this season, 18 cases of influenza-associated hospitalizations have been reported to DRSi in non-ad patients; there have been three reported cases of influenza-associated hospitalizations reported this season in the AD population. *DRSi does not capture cases older than 65 years old for influenza-associated hospitalizations. U.S. Army Public Health Center Week ending 12 January 2019 (week 2) Army Influenza Activity Report ILI ACTIVITY - ARMY ILI ACTIVITY - UNITED STATES Nationwide in week 2, incidence of ILI activity was 3.1%, this is above the national baseline of 2.2%. Regionally, the percentage of ILI outpatient visits reported to the CDC ranged from 1.8% to.2%. At Army medical treatment facilities, incidence of ILI activity increased from week 1 to week 2 by 3%. The majority of ILI encounters (68%) were from non -AD patients. LABORATORY RESPIRATORY SPECIMEN TESTING Nationwide, 1399 specimens were tested and submitted to CDC, of which 752 (5%) were positive. Influenza A accounted for 99% of the total positive specimens submitted to the CDC in week 2. In the Army population, 13% of 1690 specimens tested for influenza A were positive. 182 (82%) of the positive influenza A specimens were from non-active Duty individuals. RHC-A and RHC-C reported the majority of positive influenza A specimens, with 82 (37%) and 118 (53%) of the total influenza A positive specimens, respectively. The totals for week 1 and week 2 were 309 and 298, respectively. Influenza A accounted for 7% of the positive specimens. This was followed by 60 (20%) RSV, 9 (3%) influenza B, and (1%) adenovirus and parainfluenza cases each. The majority of positive respiratory tests resulted from rapid antigen tests (RATs), followed by PCR (66). There were four positive cultures in week 2.
