ITEM 12 APWA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING May 9-10, 2014, Ft. Lauderdale, FL District Representative Report, District V, Amy Blaida April 29, 2014 - Highlights for Central Florida Branch (as of January 16, 2014) 01/29/24: APWA Central FL Branch co-hosted with FES, ASHE, ASCE, WTS and SWE the Joint Legislative Forum Luncheon on January 29, 2014, at the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority. 3/27/14: We held our Annual Awards and Scholarship Fundraiser Meeting at the Cypress Head Golf Club in Volusia County. Our Guest Speaker was Robert Garland, Vice Chair, Florida Chapter, who provided information on the 2015 Chapter Meeting and Expo with NACE in Daytona Beach, FL. o Scholarship: We raised over $4,000 thanks to the following sponsors:

o Awards: Project of the Year: Freedom Flag Project, City of Tavares, submitted by Chris Thompson, PWD Member of the Year: Mike McCabe, City of Palm Bay Community Service/Involvement Member of the Year: David Derrick, City of Kissimmee (accepted by Jennifer Nicholson on Dave s behalf) MailChimp as communication: We have started using MailChimp as our form of communication to our members and it seems to be running smooth. It is much easier than individuals sending mass emails out to all Branch members. Members also have the choice to unsubscribe if they do not wish to receive emails. 3/18/14: We held another Lunch on learn on Herbicide and Fertilizer 101 at the Brevard County IFAS Extension Office in Cocoa, FL; Mike McCabe was able to coordinate 2 PDHs that were offered to attendees through APWA National. This event was WELL attended with a full house again. These seem to be extremely successful and this is all thanks to Mike McCabe for making this a priority to offer educational opportunities that are relevant to PW departments along w ith offering PDHs.

o Central FL Branch has a Top Ten Public Works Leader!!! Our Chapter nominated David Derrick, PWD, City of Kissimmee, for Top 10 PW Leaders, and he was selected as one of the Top Ten for 2014!! Congrats Dave!!! Upcoming Events May 22 We are co-hosting with FES Central Fl Chapter an APWA/FES Central FL Public Works Funding Roundtable at the Turnpike Office in Ocoee, FL. We will be offering 2.5 PDH s for same; $20 for government employees and $30 for others. PDH s are FREE for APWA members and $7 for non-apwa members. For the 1 st time, we are collecting payment online via EventBrite where folks can pay with their credit card. We are already close to 30 registered and we are still 3 weeks out. Details will be released soon. Newsletter Recent newsletter was published in Jan 2014. Facebook Our Branch continues to stay active on our Central FL Branch Facebook page. Come LIKE us!! https://www.facebook.com/apwa.centralflbranch Membership As of April 29, Central FL Branch membership stands at 281 members, a 1.06% decrease since Jan 16; and we have added 13 NEW members in that same
