My assessment was that I appreciate the club for the enjoyment that it brings to me as I enjoy my one hobby - flying R/C planes. This enjoyment comes from the relationships that I have found and nurtured since joining the club, meeting the new members that have joined, talking to prospective members at the field, and helping to train new pilots so they are able to fly on their own. This is in addition to the enjoyment of building a new plane and flying it for the first time, or helping a fellow club member troubleshoot (and solve) an issue with their airplane, or learning a new maneuver. I see the same sense of enjoyment of this hobby on the faces of many other club members. It is clear to me that this club is made up of members who are very passionate about their hobby! I also remembered that change is not always a comfortable process and yet change is inevitable. As our club proceeds through a fairly intense period of change, I believe it is important to move slowly; to be honest with ourselves regarding who we are as a club; and to be aware of how our actions as club members affect the entire club and prospective club members.

At our February club meeting we did not put our best foot forward as a club. The end result of that experience was the resignation of our president and also the resignation of our newsletter/website editor. We have much to learn from that experience, and yet we need to continue moving forward as well. As vice president I am charged with leading club meetings in the absence of a president. I will continue to lead club meetings until such time as a new president is identified. My goal is to help our club to be a thriving community of people that share a common joy in building/flying/crashing R/C airplanes/helicopters/quadcopters/etc. I look forward to seeing you all at the March meeting Wednesday, March 15th, at 7:00pm at the Whispering Hills Community Center in Johnsburg. Also, I want to acknowledge and thank Robby Newton for stepping up to be our newsletter editor. -Mike Guest Column Airplanes for sale Larry Brooks is a previous member who has not been able to participate in the club over the last few years due to health issues with his dad. He contacted Mike Schulz recently to share that his dad is moving to a retirement home. Larry's dad was also an avid R/Cer and Larry is trying to find a good home for his dad's R/C equipment. Larry asked if anyone in our club would be interested in buying any of his dad's planes/radios/etc. Larry said that the primary goal of his dad is to know that these planes are going to a good home where they will be used and appreciated and that pretty much any offer will be accepted. Here is the note from Larry Brooks: Hi Mike, here are some pictures of my father s RC airplanes that need a new home as dad cannot see very good anymore. He stick-built since the late 1950s and I have the first plane and radio from then too. There are 13 planes pictured and a bunch of engines one a Wankel #14 and a small Diesel and boxes of engines and parts. #3 & 4 were never flown and # 2, 6, 7, 9 are like new. #6 Ryan is for a paved runway as on grass it will nose forward. Dad built this to scale for a buddy who flew the real thing. The rest are still in nice shape. I know he has hundreds of dollars and time invested in some but he wants them to go to someone who will use them and not resell them for profit. I have them numbered so if anyone is interested in one they can ask me more about it by email or call me... Larry at 815-675-2566. I can bring the ones guys want or bring them all to the March COL Eagles meeting. It would be nice for my Dad if the taker would give a fitting donation to him as it will help his pocket book. Thanks, Larry Brooks Because there are so many pictures, a web page on the COL Eagles web site has been created which contains the above note and the photos that Larry sent. Wounded Warrior Project At the February meeting of the COL Eagles on February 13th, 2017, a motion was made and seconded to run a project to benefit the Wounded Warrior project and the veterans that are served by that organization. During a rather lengthy and lively discussion the following details emerged: 1) Ed Pate agreed to chair the project 2) The project will be run at NO COST to the club 3) Many members of the club offered their personal financial support to fund the project, and they volunteered to bring planes, chairs, tables, etc. to help support the project. Once discussion was closed, a vote was taken by a show of hands, and the vote was in favor of the project. Joe D. and Ed P. will get more details and have a discussion with the Wounded Warrior representative who contacted us about the project, and that representative is planning to attend our March meeting to have further discussion and planning regarding the event.
