MEREDITH PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Thursday, March 29 th 2018 ISSUE 9 April Monday 16 th First Day Term 2 Wednesday 18 th Cross Country (Yr 3-6) Calendar Parent Helpers Meeting Wednesday 25 th Anzac Day Public Holiday May Friday 4 th Winter Sports (Yr 3-6) Friday 18 th Winter Sports (Yr 3-6) Principal s Report Hi everyone, I cannot believe how quickly this term has ended. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for supporting our wonderful school this term. Next term will continue to be busy one, with a number of key events, including our school review and NAPLAN testing. Our Grade three to six students will be involved in the Winter sports (Football, Netball and Soccer) and MVA Cross Country. We are also planning a couple of school excursions to fit in with our MAPPEN theme for next term. We will certainly organise a term planner too be sent home at the start of next term. Easter Eggstravaganza What a wonderful time we had this morning with our Easter Eggstravaganza activities. The students have been very excited all week about the Easter hat parade. What an amazing job they did! Well done to everyone involved, in particular to parents for helping the kids with their designs. It was great to have the kinder kids involved as well. I would also like to thank Stef Parkinson, Kelly Murfitt and Ngare Knight for assisting in the kitchen preparing the hot cross buns. Thank you to everyone who purchased hot cross buns and raffle tickets. We made a total of $420 and we will be donating this money to the Royal Children s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Office support You may have noticed that we have had Judith Wood filling in for Belinda while she has been out resting her injured shoulder. At this stage, we anticipate Belinda will be returning to school towards the end of the first week back next term. We wish her a speedy recovery. Until then, Judith will continue to support where she can. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Parent Survey Thank you to all the families that have completed the pre-review survey I sent out early last week. All the responses have been collected and will be sent to the review team tomorrow. Netball Clinic Earlier this week I took 17 eager 3/4 students to Geelong to participate in a Netball Clinic run by representatives from the Melbourne Vixens. We had a great morning, running around the courts at Kadina Netball courts. The kids did a great job and really enjoyed the skill activities. During our lunch break, we had a great surprise seeing Gary Ablett walk past. Parent helpers meeting We are very keen to start up our parent helpers program next term. To get this started I will be running a parent helpers induction meeting on the first Wednesday back starting at 9am. If you are interested to be involved and are unable to make this meeting please let me know.

School X-Country What a wonderful morning we had running our Grade 3-6 Cross Country. It was great seeing our Grade 2 kids cheering on the all runners. A big thanks to Matt Fisher for helping out. Well done to all the competitors, and congratulations to the following students for finishing first in their age groups: Age Group Boys Girls 9 year Charlie Nettleton Matilda Kelly 10 year Harley Murfitt Arabella Knight 11 year Robert Fisher Torah Munday 12 year Brody Wells Abbey Fisher Breakfast club What a wonderful morning we had last Friday with our first Before School Breakfast. It was great to see so many students turn up to enjoy the food that was prepared. A big thanks to the volunteers from the Momentum Christian Centre in Bannockburn for running this event. We are very keen to trial this again next term.

Child safe standards- At, we have zero tollerance of child abuse. The Child Safe Standards were introduced into schools during 2016 and support organisations to ensure they are well prepared to protect children from abuse and neglect. Throughout different times this year I will be sharing aspects of each of these standards and what we do at school to support these standards. We have started to advertise the PROTECT posters around the learning spaces within the school. I have included a copy of what these posters look like. I encourage you all to read through these posters with your children and emphasise the importance that everyone has the right to feel safe and be protected from abuse. That is it for this week; I hope everyone has a safe holiday break! Shane Sachse Acting Principal
