East Carolina University Continuing Education Courses for 2016-17 2017 Sustainability Symposium Sustainability has emerged as a primary concern for many sectors, including academic institutions and industries around the world. The 2017 Sustainability Symposium will engage community individuals, university faculty and staff, industry, and agencies interested in Sustainability, with a primary focus on Agriculture and Food Sustainability (food, water, and energy). This symposium will present thought-provoking examples of sustainability ideas, analyses and practices. The event will promote approaches that adopt/implement inclusive views of the key dimensions of sustainability (environmental, economic and social) to address present and future needs. The goal of the event is to catalyze and stimulate discussion on how sustainability can be integrated into research and industry practices, especially those that will benefit eastern North Carolina. African American Health: Understanding Their Health Issues I Topics in this module include an Introduction to African American health, medical anthropology and African American health, African American culture and health outcomes, and strategies of applied medical anthropological public health research. African American Health: Understanding Their Health Issues II Module topics here include cultural health framework, diabetes disparities and cancer status in Black Americans, and the life expectancy of the Black male. Topics in this module include HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, mental health issues and physical activity in Black America, and reproductive health disparities among African American women and alternative health practices.
