The Directorate is responsible for five areas Digital Engagement, Brand and Communications, PR and Celebrity, Policy and Campaigns and Public Health and Information and is made up of 46 posts. Purpose of the role As part of the wider Brand and Communications team you will raise awareness of the Breast Cancer Now brand by providing engaging and original content on Breast Cancer Now s research for internal and external audiences. Key accountabilities Delivering engaging and effective communications: Deliver engaging research content that drives brand awareness and understanding, and activates support and influence from a range of external stakeholders including prospective and existing supporters, the public, opinion formers and parliamentarians, the media and the research community. Research content planning and reporting: Contribute to the content planning process to maximise opportunities to promote Breast Cancer Now s research through PR, our website, blogs, video, social media channels and e-newsletters. Track upcoming publications from Breast Cancer Now s researchers and ensure processes are followed to maximise their communications potential. Keep the team s content plan up to date and work with the Digital Engagement team
to track and report on content performance. PR support: Work with the PR and Celebrity team to raise the profile of Breast Cancer Now s research portfolio and outcomes, advising on media releases, and helping to respond to queries from journalists and breaking news on breast cancer research. Fundraising support: Ensure relevant teams at Breast Cancer Now receive the best research communications support to help deliver successful public fundraising appeals. Training for staff and key stakeholders: Provide training and other presentations to maximise understanding and engagement with Breast Cancer Now s research at induction sessions for staff and key external stakeholders. Strengthening scientific relationships: Build effective relationships with researchers across Breast Cancer Now s portfolio to maximise opportunities for communicating their work. Contribute content and ideas to support the Research Directorate's events for research stakeholders and promotional activities at scientific conferences. Person Specification Experience We would like you to have the following experience: A degree in a relevant scientific discipline Experience of translating complex scientific information for a lay audience A scientific understanding of breast cancer or cancer in general Ideally we would like you to have the following experience: A degree or qualification with a science communication component Experience of working with academic stakeholders Experience of working in the charity sector Skills We would like you to be able to: Have excellent writing and verbal communication skills Confident using databases, Microsoft Office applications and the internet including academic search engines Well-spoken and presentable Attributes We would like you to have: Able to research, interpret and present scientific information in accessible and meaningful ways The ability to develop good working relationships within and outside your team The ability to work independently and to use your own initiative Highly organised and able to prioritise and multitask to meet tight deadlines
