We will not have an Executive Committee or General Meeting in December. So hope to see everyone in 2017 on Tuesday, January 17 th. Janet Thompson and I attended Fall Conference in Marshall in October, this is a learning conference and was very informative. On Saturday we had a joint meeting with the American Legion Family; the newly elected Department Commander Denise Milton opened the meeting and the guest speaker was Denise Rohan, the American Legion Candidate for National Commander; her message was awesome. There are a lot of talented women in the American Legion and Auxiliary. We had 18 members donate desserts for Veterans Day, plus many more who did not sign-in. What a great response and everything was so good. Thank you all! Thanks also to our members who were there all day to serve the desserts.we had a good time. In October we made a donation of $1100 for the $5.00 Dollar Bill Shower and Gift Shop --- these are programs the Auxiliary sponsors in December at the Hastings Veterans Homes where the Veterans receive Christmas gifts and also shop for their family members. In recognition of American Education Week, a few of our Auxiliary members helped the Post deliver 4,300 apples to District 196 teachers, staff, bus drivers and custodial employees. Everyone was very appreciative.we were treated to a nice lunch at the Post. In the Spirit of God and Country WE SERVE Veterans, Military and their families. Chaplain Janet Thompson Remember to email or call me about any member that has surgery, becomes ill or a death in the family. I will send a card from the Auxiliary. This past month I sent out one sympathy card. It was sent to our President Gorda for the loss of her sister. 1 st Vice President Sheri Hornnes The Legion Family Christmas Get-Together is scheduled for Thursday, December 8, at Post 1776. Membership Jan Lauby Don t Wait Renew Your Membership Soon Here is 1 Reason Why We have 4 $25.00 Gift Certificates to be given away and all you need to do to enter is to pay your 2017 dues by the end of the year (December 31, 2016). Pay by Thanksgiving (November 24, 2016), and you will double your chances your name will go into the drawing twice! Yep that means you could win 2 if you pay dues by Thanksgiving. Not a Member? If you are eligible to become a member, all you need to do is fill out an application and turn it in to the Pull Tab Booth, include your dues of $25.00, and you too will be entered into the drawing. More Important Reasons to Renew or Join Supporting Our Veterans! We rely on dues from our members to support the programs the Auxiliary is involved in with helping Our Veterans. One person can do amazing things but together, we can do more. Past President Janet Thompson Can you believe it is December and Christmas and the New Year will be upon us soon? The year of 2016 is almost over. We have accomplished many things during the year. Our Auxiliary held several meat raffles, horse races, a Kentucky Derby Day with horse racing and a hat contest, held a craft show, a Trash to Treasure show, had a profitable 4 th of July booth, sent six girls to Girl s State and awarded two scholarships to two high school juniors. Girls State and Scholarships: In January I will be sending out information for Girl s State and scholarships to all the high schools in our area. If you have family members that are female juniors tell them to ask their counselor about Girl s State information. Also all of you that have children or grandchildren graduating this spring from high school to contact the counselors or me about scholarship applications.
Fundraisers Marlene Heinzen & Mary Lyman The Craft & Bake Sale was on Saturday, October 29 from 9:00 4:00 pm. Well, we did it again..another big successful Craft & Bake sale! It took two days of long hours to set up for the event. We had 30 vendors in the back room so it was a full house but it all went great. We received lots of compliments on the variety of vendors hope some of them come back next year. Thank you to all of you that donated baked goods for the sale. We have such good bakers in our Auxiliary! Thank you also to Linda for making her delicious sloppy joes..the aroma filled the air.
