Joint Meeting of The British Society for Restorative Dentistry & The British Society of Teachers of Conservative Dentistry Dear Colleague The British Society for Restorative Dentistry and British Association of Teachers of Conservative Dentistry are pleased to announce the second joint meeting of the two societies. The meeting will bring together knowledge and practical expertise and will be of direct relevance to clinical practice and teaching. The conference provides an opportunity to hear UK speakers in the field and to network with like-minded colleagues across the disciplines. The meeting will be of particular interest to general dental practitioners, junior trainees, specialists, hygienists and therapists. The scientific programme is enhanced by an extensive exhibition of the dental industry and both societies are particularly delighted that 3M ESPE, Neoss and Straumann are major sponsors of the event. SPEAKERS Matthew Garrett qualified in 2001and following general professional training based at Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute he worked at The Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield and The Royal London Dental Hospital. He carried out his Specialist Registrar training at Bristol Dental Hospital & School and was appointed Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King s College NHS Foundation Trust in 2010. He is the current Honorary Secretary of The British Society for Restorative Dentistry and past board member of The Faculty of Dental Surgery of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. His clinical and research interests include clinical outcomes in periodontal therapy, hypodontia, and the management of tooth wear using minimally invasive techniques. Richard Ibbetson is the Director of Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute, Chair of Dental Primary Care, University of Edinburgh. Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Clinical Director, Edinburgh Dental Institute, Scotland, UK. Richard Ibbetson graduated from Guy s Hospital Dental School, London in 1974. He spent twenty years at the Eastman Dental Institute in London firstly as a postgraduate Masters student. He was Head of Department of Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman in the early 1990 s and later established a new department of Continuing Education. In 1999, he was appointed to the Chair of Dental Primary Care at the University of Edinburgh and became Director of the new Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute of the University of Edinburgh where there are now over forty Masters degree students. He has a reputation as a teacher in the areas of Conservative Dentistry and Fixed Prosthodontics. His research interests centre on aspects of fixed prosthodontics and the effectiveness of postgraduate dental education. Martin Kelleher is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Kings College London Dental Institute. He is a past president of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry. He was on the Board of Dental Protection for 10 years and was President of Southern Counties Branch of the BDA 2008-2009. He is on the GDC specialist lists in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. He is a dental fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is the author of many peer reviewed papers and a book on Dental Bleaching published by Quintessence 2008. He is in private practice in Bromley. Robert Lane is president and founder of Aspire Communications, a firm dedicated to the study and advancement of visually interactive presentation techniques. His relational presentation methodology allows a presenter to navigate smoothly and dynamically within a large collection of PowerPoint slides while speaking so that visual messages can be tailored to viewers on-the-spot. The techniques are especially relevant to sales, teaching, and training contexts. Robert speaks, consults and trains around the world. He has authored several books including, Relational Presentation: a visually interactive approach and pioneered an online video training course that teaches visually interactive presentation skills. Jane McHarg is an Associate Professor in Dental Education and the Year 1 lead at Peninsula Dental School. Since the school opened in 2007, Jane has been responsible for the overall co-ordination of the first year of the dental programme including student learning and wellbeing and the delivery and design of the curriculum. She worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Exeter as a molecular biologist and protein engineer before moving to Peninsula Medical School on the core teaching staff in 2002. At this time she became interested in clinical education in which she obtained a diploma and it is in this area which she publishes her scholarship and research. She heads up a partnership with Bristol and Cardiff Dental Schools which plan to collaborate on dental education research. Paul Redmond is Head of Careers and Employability at the University of Liverpool and one of the country s leading experts on generational theory and the graduate labour market. An experienced writer and speaker, Paul has presented at numerous events and conferences both in the UK and overseas. In addition to writing regularly for the Guardian, his research has featured in most leading UK newspapers and in recent months he has been a guest on programmes including BBC Breakfast, BBC London, ITN Granada Reports, and BBC Radio 2 Jeremy Vine Show. Paul s work brings him into contact with a range of national and international organisations. His research into the future of work, Generation Y and the rise of helicopter parents is currently attracting considerable attention among both graduate recruiters and the media. Paul is vice-president of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. His new book, The Graduate Careers Formula is published by Trotman in May 2010. Lloyd Searson graduated in 1980 from the Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff. Following graduation, he continued to work at the school in the departments of Oral Surgery and Conservative Dentistry before accepting a post in the department of Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute. In 1983 Lloyd won a prestigious, highly competitive Science and Engineering Research Scholarship which allowed him to enrol onto the Master of Science in Restorative Dentistry programme at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA. After completing his MSc in 1985, Lloyd returned to work at The Eastman Dental Institute where he has been a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Prosthodontics department for over twenty years He is renowned as one of the leading implant surgeons in the United Kingdom. He has recently moved from The Eastman Dental Institute to Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King s College NHS Foundation Trust as well as working in specialist practice. He is past president of the America Dental Society of London Currently President Elect American Dental Society of Europe and Chairman of the America College of Dentistry European Division. Roger Yates qualified in 1984 from Birmingham Dental School. He spent the following 5 years working in the hospital service including 3 years as a Registrar in Restorative Dentistry. He spent the next 7 years in general dental practice before returning to the hospital service at Bristol Dental Hospital & School. He was appointed Consultant/Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry (Periodontology) in 2003. Roger has published in a number of peer reviewed journals and is an international speaker in his field of periodontology.
