MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER OF THE UPPER VALLEY About our event In 2015, more than 200 people helped the American Cancer Society raise more than $24,357 to save lives from breast cancer in this first year event. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of the Upper Valley benefited from the support of more than [NUMBER] local businesses and organizations, representing a variety of industries This event is held an area referred to as the "Gateway to the Upper Valley Region of Vermont and New Hampshire". This area is a beautiful, prosperous and dynamic place to live and work. Making a difference to help save lives from breast cancer in New Hampshire and Vermont. The American Cancer Society relies on more than 100 years of evidence and proven results to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease. There s hardly a person or family who hasn t benefited, directly or indirectly, from our work to eliminate breast cancer and all cancers as a major health problem. Helping people take steps to stay healthy Providing funding to help women access mammograms and receive treatment Providing employers with tools and resources to create healthy workplaces Engaging corporate CEOs to make health and wellness a priority in the workplace Working with corporations on partnerships to increase awareness for our cause Helping people facing cancer today Fulfilling more than 800,000 requests for cancer information via phone, email, and online chats (US) Providing more than 3740 rides to and from their cancer-related appointments (NH & VT) Providing more than 381 nights of free lodging to those traveling away from home for treatment (NH & VT) Helping guide more patients through the health care system (NH & VT) Providing more support services to breast cancer patients (NH & VT) Helping more people learn how to manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment (NH & VT) Helping find cancer s causes and cures Currently, funding more than $112 million in breast cancer research grants in the US with more than $16 million dedicated to New England Institutions and $1.5 million dedicated to New Hampshire Institutions. Grants currently being funded are focused on: o Understanding disparities o Overcoming resistance to therapies Rallying communities to fight back Bringing together more than 10,000 participants and volunteers at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks (NH & VT) VT ACS CAN works to ensure access to quality affordable health care &implementation of the Affordable Care Act. VT ACS CAN advocates for comprehensive Tobacco Control Program funding. NH ACS CAN advocated for the oral chemotherapy parity bill (HB508) which was signed into law in 2015. NH ACS CAN supported a bill signed into law in 2015 that prohibits indoor tanning for those under 18.
