What is Multiple Sclerosis? Movement is all around us and our bodies and minds are in constant motion, connecting with and expressing ourselves to the world. It s so much of who we are; it s easy to take movement for granted. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that affects the central nervous system by disrupting the flow of information from the brain to the body. It s an elusive disease with no known cause and no known cure. Symptoms vary from person to person depending on how the central nervous system is affected, making it hard to diagnose. Symptoms can range from numbness in the limbs, balance and walk impairment to cognitive difficulties, paralysis, or loss of vision. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn t. Colorado-Wyoming Chapter National MS Society The Colorado-Wyoming Chapter serves over 100,000 individuals affected by MS in Colorado and Wyoming. Colorado and Wyoming have one of the highest incidences of MS in the country: 1 in 495. The Colorado-Wyoming Chapter strives to help people become knowledgeable about MS, learn to manage the disease and its symptoms, and achieve maximum independence. A wide range of programs are available to people with MS and their families including education, advocacy, information, peer support, need-based financial assistance, and therapeutic recreation. curemsco-wy.org 1-800-FIGHT-MS (344-4867) 900 S.
