HOWARD HOUSE NEWS APRIL ISSUE MANAGER S MESSAGE Hi Hope you are all well Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the relatives and residents meeting. We had a great turn out and I hope, by working together, we can continue to improve the home. We have secured usage of the company mini bus and will keep you updated with dates and outings. Please let Hayley or Tara know if you are able to help out with day trips. Mary G Kerr THIS IS THE EIGTH EDITION OF HOWARD HOUSE S NEWSLETTER AND WILL BE PUBLISHED QUARTERLY. SHOULD ANY RELATIVES/FRIENDS OF HOWARD HOUSE HAVE ANY IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS/COMMENTS ON WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE PUBLISHED PLEASE SEE HAYLEY OR TARA TO DISCUSS. It s Spring well supposed to be lol Let s just hope there is no more beasts from the east and we can start arranging our day trips. We are hoping to arrange our first outing in the upcoming weeks, so if you have any suggestions please let Hayley or Tara know!

Our own Ann Kerr, and Jean Shedden dressed our Haggis at our Annual Burns Supper! This year, we were joined by own Harry Dalziel s grandson and his friends who entertained us with bagpipes, as well as dancers who thrilled us with their Highland dancing. Huge thanks and appreciation to Mrs McGarry for all her efforts. The Valentine s day celebrations went down a treat with our residents, who all celebrated in style with handmade place mats that had been coloured in by the nursery children and residents during our intergenerational visits on a Tuesday and Friday. To commemorate Chinese New Year, Iain (Chef) made a delightful Chinese themed menu. Hayley also hosted a Chinese style tea tasting afternoon. All residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the event next year. What a fantastic turn out we had for Mother s Day, big thanks to Pamela Wales who baked us fabulous Kensington Scones, (all mums deserve to be treated like Queens at least one day a year ) and provided cakes for everyone. Was lovely to see more than one generation getting spoiled by their loved ones.

St Patricks Day was also a great celebration by both residents and staff even joining in, in the sing-song. We have begged Ann not to give up her day job just yet though haha!!! But maybe we should be organising a Howard House has talent?? OTHER NEWS, all friends and families are welcome. We all looking to raise monies for the residents funds to help with outings etc so please come along and have a flutter. Please note there will be a dress code for this event and would encourage everyone to come in their Sunday best! If you have any spare dress hats/fascinators, bow ties etc for the residents we would gladly welcome these. You should have received your invites for the Dementia Café on Thursday 29 th March at 2.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!!! This will be held on a quarterly basis so don t worry if your unable to make it this time.

JUST A WEE REMINDER Our SUMMER FETE is being held on the 30 th June 2018, and our residents have been busy, decorating jewellery boxes which will be on sale on the day. There will be loads on offer with plenty of games and activities keep an eye out for posters and invites coming out soon. WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS FOR RAFFLE PRIZES, AND SUGGESTIONS FOR GAMES/STALLS ETC RELATIVES AND RESIDENTS MEETING Following the recent relatives and residents meeting, you should have received a letter detailing your loved ones named nurse and key worker. You should also have received a copy of the new direct debit dates for the upcoming new financial year. On another note, it was mentioned during the meeting that a group email would have been more effective when communicating with family membes regarding closure of the home. We have been looking into this, and it seems that a text messaging service is the most effective way of communicating with you all. We are still looking into this, and will keep you updated at the next meeting, which will be held on 16 May 2018 at 2.30pm. Please remember you should not wait until the next meeting to raise any concerns, please come and see Mary or Cate
