ABOUT MARTHA S TABLE At Martha s Table, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity for their brightest future and a deeply engaged family and community committed to their success. Our Healthy Eating initiatives work to reduce food insecurity, and increase access to and consumption of healthy food. A healthy meal every day is essential for supporting stronger children, families, and communities in our city. We thank you for standing with us and your neighbors. We are grateful to have you by our side. Hunger can seem like an insurmountable issue but there are tangible steps we can take and ways to get involved and this is just one of them. People want to help and the One Pot Supper made it easy and fun. 2015 One Pot Supper host ABOUT ONE POT SUPPERS Martha s Table s mobile food truck, McKenna s Wagon, rolls out 365 days a year to provide meals for our neighbors in need in the District. Inspired by the one pot supper that our volunteers prepare here at Martha s Table and on McKenna s Wagon every night, One Pot Suppers offers the opportunity for friends and supporters of Martha s Table to make an impact on our community. As a host, you will organize one of many simultaneous One Pot Suppers happening across the District on Sunday, October 23rd. At each Supper, guests will discuss the issue of hunger and raise funds for Martha s Table s vital Healthy Eating programs, which will distribute more than 1.5 million meals this year. One Pot Suppers puts the event in your hands, creating a fun, exciting, and rewarding experience for an important cause. You pick the time and location. Will you host a Supper in your home? A brunch on your friend s rooftop patio? An early meal in the park? It s entirely up to you! One Pot Supper Host Kit Page 3

THE BIG DAY Everything is in place and you re ready to receive your guests. Here are some tips to plan your evening. SERVE YOUR GUESTS First, thank your guests, introduce yourself, and explain why you wanted to host a One Pot Supper. Serve your meal! Take and share pictures. Post on social media using #mt1pot (Tweet us at @marthastableorg and Instagram us at @marthastable) to tell people what you re eating, who you re with, and what you re discussing. SUGGESTED DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: DURING YOUR SUPPER Choose a moderator who can subtly guide the conversation and keep it on target. You may want to fill the role, or ask someone else to. Allow the conversation to flow, working through our suggested discussion questions or your own! Consider sending guests an opening question a few days before the supper. It should be easy to answer and inspire shared stories. When it comes to discussing everyone s vision for fighting hunger in our city, open with a question that gets people talking about people or places in the District. Encourage stories, not theories. 1. When you think of an overall stronger, thriving Washington, D.C., five years from now, what does it look like? 2. What are the underlying causes of hunger? 3. What are the effects of hunger on children, families, and the community at large? 4. What do you see that you think is working when it comes to addressing the issue of hunger in our communities? What isn t? 5. As the area median income increases and development expands across the District, how can we ensure that all residents have access to healthy, affordable food?
