From Your Commander: Remember your 2017 dues must be paid by January 1, 2017 Hi everyone, boy time fly s; here it is, the first of the New Year, and my tenure as your post commander is half over. I hope you are enjoying the changes we have made for the betterment of your post, such as Taco night on the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday, burger night on the 4 th Wednesday, sponsored by the SAL, raffles sponsored by the SAL and Auxiliary. We also are providing more chances on tip boards and snacks at the bar. However, the biggest changes have been the community events; Halloween and Children s Christmas Parties. Let us not forget the non-smoking in effect, and we are seeing more families in our post. For you smokers, we are trying to finalize the plans for a closed in porch. How exciting all these things are, however we still need your help with your attendance at the meetings, where you voice will be heard. All the changes made have come from those attending the meetings and supporting the post. Your volunteering to assist with the parties and events is making us successful. Some of you are even bringing in new members to help and that is awesome. If every member brought in one new eligible member, just think of how many ideas would come forward. So, with the new year how about coming in, check us out, join in, volunteer, get out of the house, and give us your ideas. A huge thank you goes out to our Legion family for all they do to make our post fun and exciting. This month you will see a couple of new things. First the Legion web page will be up and running. Second, we will have the capability to process Debit/Credit cards at the bar. We ve added being open Sundays from 12 to 6, along with new faces behind the bar. If you aren t doing anything exciting on every other Saturday night, come to the post and play cornhole, thanks to Drew Wallace we have 5 sets of boards, 20 players with subs, and we can handle more. We offer a few T-shirts with POW Never Forget in select sizes starting at $15.00. Thank-you Denny VanZile for the Keurig Coffee Maker, if you see Pappy thank him. Grab your favorite K-cup and bring it to the post, as we are working on our selections. As you saw in the calendar, Post 97 is hosting the 4 th District Legion meeting January 5 th. Our Auxiliary preparing the meal, and if you know those cooks they are going to serve some great food. The menu is, Baked Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Corn & Green Beans, and of course dessert. I would like to thank the Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and ALR for taking care of our Christmas family with your generous donations. On January 28 with over flow on the 29 th the 4 th District is having a Bowling Tournament at Auburn Bowl with food being served at Post 97, right next door. Free to the bowlers, and a nominal charge to non-bowlers. If you are interested in bowling call Auburn Bowl at 260-925-0235. May God, Bless You and Your Family God Bless America for Freedom is Not Free. Thank you and God Bless All Veterans Larry Uehlein Commander of Post 97
From Your SAL Commander: Hello Again, I hope this finds everyone doing well and surviving the holidays. As we all know the Indiana weather changes in a moment's notice. I would ask if you know someone who doesn't get out often please check on them and see if they are alright. By the time, you read this your dues should be paid. Remember that you must have your current 2017 membership paid to partake in any of the Post functions. Our burger night is doing well and we will continue to do so if we have the participation. We can always use help when we put on an event, so just come on in and assist. Our burger night is the fourth Wednesday of the month from 5-7 pm. Next one will be on January 25th! The Christmas party was a little light on attendance but plenty of food and fun. The events that the Legion families do are for everyone to enjoy! There is a lot of work that goes into putting it together and it's disheartening when the members don't attend. Our SAL meetings are always the third Monday of every month starting at 7:00pm. So, that means that on January 16th we will have our meeting starting at 7:00 pm. We hope to see you there! Hope to see you soon! For God and Country! Doug Heiser, Squadron Commander
From Your President: Welcome Ladies, I hope everyone one is staying warm out there!! At our last meeting, we Draped the Charter for Garcile Fee; as well as sending comfort and prayers to her family and friends. I would like to thank everyone for helping with the Children s Christmas Party everyone had a great time! We had a great turn out at the Legion Christmas party afterwards too. Thank-you to the Legion for donating the ham & turkey and the members for the delicious dishes that were bought in for the party. A big thank-you to the Auxiliary for making the centerpieces for the auction. We raised $447.00 for Commander Joe Schultis program which is Child Welfare Foundation!! At this time, we are suspending the basket raffle until after our meeting in January. The basket theme will be Super Bowl/ Valentine s Day. We would like to congratulations to Kathy Acky for winning the Christmas basket!! The Auxiliary is having a Bake Sale on January 22. Please bring your favorite snacks before 2:30 p.m. to the post. This activity is a great way for us to raise funds for our unit. Our next meeting will be January 4 th, at 6:00 p.m. Come and join us with your great ideas and many suggestions!! From your ALR Director: Hello fellow riders. Not much to report on. The Christmas family enjoyed a very merry Christmas; because of your donations we couldn't have made this happen. I thank you very much for your support. New officers have been installed in office. I recommend you get to know them and don't be afraid to give them your ideas and ask them questions. That's why we are here; to help you with your experience as a rider and guide you through it to have a great time. A humongous thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the Children s Christmas party at the post. I played Santa Claus and had a great time. The Post family party was awesome and those of you that didn't make it; there is always next year and we hope to start a tradition in the post. With the cold weather upon us I would like us to step up wellness check systems to check on our brothers and sisters; as it is very easy to close yourself in your home and stay warm and keep to ourselves. Remember we are our brother s keeper. I love each and every one of you and thank you for your support in the office I have been chosen to fulfill. I hope to continue with the traditions of the chapter and move forward to bring some old ones back and create new ones. At the next meeting on the 8th of January (please note the date). The Sgt. at Arms will be checking for 2017 paid membership, for the post and the chapter; at that time, you will have the opportunity to pay both if you re not current. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but it must be done as your dues helps us do what we do as American Legion members. I'm doing better now, however the cold weather is not my favorite part of healing but I will do what I must do to perform my duties. Enough said for now. Stay warm and I hope to see you all from time to time at the post to enjoy the things we have put in place for you as members. Your Director proudly serving. Ron Boyd
