Details of Chapter activities since last report 1) Recruit new members We recruited new members in many different ways. For instance, we made the recruitment information on the network and put up posters in the institution. Meanwhile, some new members were recommended by the old s. Because of many high quality conferences and various activities held by SPIE, many student joined our club in order to broaden their horizons and exchange academic idea. This year we also have quite a few members, which proves that our chapters has certain effect on operating the club and many students want to join us to get to know the SPIE club and its conferences. 2) Held a dinner party to welcome the new members

We gave the new members of our chapter a warm welcome by holding a dinner party. During the dinner party, Professor Leng, the advisor of our chapter, recommended the glorious history of our chapter and the SPIE Student Club humorously. All students showed great interest in them. Then the new members were asked to introduce themselves to each other and the old members shared their experience afterwards. Everyone enjoyed their times. During the discussion, they were pleased to provide advices about the future activities planning and the management of the chapter. At last, the new officers are elected, and president Zhao gave us a short conclusion. 3) Made new member cards We had made the name cards for the new members. 4) Outdoor activities In order to build a harmonic and relaxed atmosphere, we took a tour of Xitang Ancient Town in Zhejiang Province, which is an ancient town with peaceful and beautiful environment. It features flat terrain, crisscrossed rivers, numerous, bridges, lanes and ceilinged corridors. It is like an ancient piece of jade, glittering and translucent. We enjoyed there, and felt very fruitful. We amazed the easygoing lifestyle that local residents had followed for thousands of years and felt the people in the town live ordinary, peaceful lives. All the members of our chapter had a good time and knew each other better. Meanwhile, we

discussed the development of SPIE Student Club, everyone felt that our chapter is like a big family and loved the group. It is good for the expansion of our chapter. 5) Volunteers on the 2016 National Science day On the second week of May, known as the National Science week, we welcomed primary students from five nearby elementary schools such as Qinghe Road Elementary School. Our volunteers demonstrated a few interesting optical experiments with carefully pre-prepared instruments and equipment, took them around several representative laboratories in our institute like the State Key Laboratory of High Laser Physics, and told them lots of principles about basic physics and optics. All of us showed great enthusiasm and patience. Although some of them may not understand, we hope this kind of activity can help to fire up their curiosity, excitement, creativity, and intelligence in optics.

Each year we will hold a relaxation outdoor activity. We plan to organize a small fun sports meeting in our institute, and a visit to a famous place. This can attract more students to pay close attention to the SPIE club. 7) Several internal discussions or workshops in our chapter.
