January 2014 The Jib From Commodore Adam Masters Happy New Year,! UPCOMING EVENTS Saturday, January 25 General Membership Meeting / Happy Hour 6:00pm Thursday, January 16 Board Meeting 7:00pm Friday, February 7 TGIF: The Not-So-Newlywed Game 7:00pm Thursday, February 20 Board Meeting 7:00pm The Entertainment Committee:: Sue Dobmeier suedobmeier@yahoo.com Chris and Jill Neuhaus jilliann78@yahoo.com Lisa McCarthy lmcc@roadrunner.com Bob Richards brichards@ stereoadvantage.com Mother Nature has provided a rock-androllin start to 2014. You probably all experienced the tempestuous visit from our neighbor up north, the Polar Vortex, bearing such gifts as 50mph winds and sub-zero temperatures. Thankfully, the vortex dropped her snow bands in the Buffalo area leaving our island comparatively snow-free. NSC had some minor flooding at the height of this event, but there does not appear to be any damage to the club. The pool is now hazardously full thanks to the high water of the river. I will be taking advantage of this week s mild weather to pump the pool down to a safe level. Looking forward, the club calendar is attached; please sign up as a host for one of our monthly TGIFs, and/or any of the other parties listed! The parties are great fun and a much-needed way to support the club, while also getting to know your fellow club members. I also feel we do need more fun events for children and families too, i.e. pool parties, movie nights, scavenger hunts and other family-friendly activities. Contact me, or Rear Commodore PC Tony Albano, or any member of the Entertainment Committee with your ideas and we can make this happen! Eagerly awaiting the summer and hoping for a fantastic 2014! The JIB www.niagarasailingclub.com Page 2 From Vice Commodore, PC Tony Albano The 2014 boating and party season is quickly approaching! Our club calendar is attached to the Jib and is also posted on the website. We are looking for volunteers to run some of the parties. Please consider hosting one or more of these fun events; this is a great way for new members to get to know more people around the club. You will never have to host alone; ask your friends and/or new members to help - the more the merrier and the easier it is to host! We will also get one of the board of directors to help you run your party. If you want to host a happy hour or come up with a unique party idea, just let me know and we will assist you with it. For those scheduling a private party, please use the form on the NSC website under the Club Rental tab, and I will get back to you to confirm your date. You will be required to complete the rental agreement requesting a $100 rental fee for members ($175 rental fee for non-members) and a $50 security deposit. Your date cannot be guaranteed until the fees are collected. As I continue to manage the bar I remind you that our liquor license does not allow members or guests to bring their own alcoholic beverages on club property. We will try to accommodate any special requests, but please allow us ample time. Please remember it is your responsibility to clean up after your party. Just a reminder, no private parties can be booked on Saturdays or Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Looking forward to another fun-filled year! A friendly reminder that our General Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 6:00 PM to read the final changes to the Constitution and cast a FINAL vote. Please take this seriously as this will be the last vote to accept the changes. We need 3/4 of the members in attendance to accept these change for it to pass. So please come and VOTE. Stephen Rodgers Rear Commodore Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves, and the only way they could do this is by not voting. -Franklin D.
