VFW Post 10227 2375 N. 5 th St., Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 (928)759-0095 http://mingusmountainpost10227.org Volume 2, Issue 5 May 2016 A NOTE FROM COMMANDER DUNN Comrades, Now that the Post elections are over, I would l like to take the time to thank my team for all the work and dedication they have shown throughout the year. I really appreciate all they have done. The Friday night dinners, dinner meetings, fund raisers and special projects, all a success, all due to their dedication. They have shown what it takes to make our Post a success. I wish to congratulate John Stuczinsky and his new team and wish them success in the coming year. I and my team will do everything possible to help them get off to a good start. In closing, I wish to thank all the people who have come to the Post and purchased dinners on Friday evenings, made donations, and volunteered all year long. You are true patriots. Best regards, Bill Dunn Commander 2015-2016 A NOTE FROM QUARTERMASTER BILL HALPIN First off, I would like to congratulate the newly elected officers for the upcoming term of 2016-2017. The transition should be smooth during the coming weeks. I know the new team will need volunteers for various positions at the Post so please. Business at the Canteen during the day has been somewhat sporadic and our Friday night dinner business is starting to fall off to a dangerous breakeven level. We need more participation at the Post from the Membership. Our books are financially good but with this continued decline in business, we can easily fall back to the November/December 2015 time period which was a near financial disaster for the Post. It s your Post so participate in it.

Tickets are available at the Post for the upcoming May 20th USO Tribute Dinner/Show and they are available for Will Call purchase by using your credit card at 928-759-0095. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase your tickets. We re only allowing 400 tickets to be sold and if you wait until the last week to purchase your tickets, just like our New Year s Eve dinner event, you will be disappointed to find out we re sold out. Get them while you can. The Ruger LC-9 pistol raffle is going good and we only have about 70 raffle tickets left. I was hoping to raffle the pistol off by at least the Friday, 4/29 dinner, but because we didn t serve dinner last week due to the Prescott Valley Days beer garden and the lack of sales, I m afraid that will not happen. Sales should pick up and the Pistol will be raffled off soon. Bill Halpin Post Quartermaster A NOTE FROM THE AUXILIARY We re recovering from hosting a large District 2 meeting lots of guests and elections. The Auxiliary has elected new District officers who will take their positions at the Department Convention in June. Our Auxiliary officers will also take their positions at Department. We re finding ways to raise funds for our treasury. Please spare a thought for Starr Campbell, our Treasurer and Chief Bingo Caller. She s begun a tough series of chemo treatments. Respectfully Submitted Linda Thuringer, President C.A.R.S. Come in and try your luck on our new C.A.R.S. (Computer Aided Raffle System) Raffle Machines. Wagers are in 5 and 10 cent increments. You can win up to $500 cash! EVENTS Our Post sponsors Boy Scout troop 72201. This troop is in conjunction with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. We still need volunteers for this project.

COMMENTS The Post Bar is temporarily closed on Saturdays due to lack of member participation. We NEED OUR MEMBERS to participate in our Post activities. That includes our lunches, Friday dinners and participation in our daily, weekly and monthly fund raisers. Without your participation, we cannot succeed. We cannot really solely on non-members to keep the Post afloat. PLEASE bring YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS. The Post MEALS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! In order to ensure prompt seating, please call for reservations for parties of 4 or more for lunch or dinner. DONATIONS Donations to the Post are tax deductible from both state and federal taxes. You may want to check with your tax preparer to see if donations to the Post are eligible for a direct tax credit in the State of Arizona. You get a chance to lower your taxes and help the Post. Post 10227 has a GoFundMe account to help pay off its MORTGAGE. The fund now stands at $1485.00. Please get the word out so that we can get this burden out of the way and free up funds to help our veterans, their families and widows. GoFundMe is a crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money. The company is based in San Diego, California and was founded in 2010. To contribute: https://www.gofundme.com/xpech6f8 $ $ $ $ THIS IS A WIN-WIN ~ FOR YOU & THE POST $ $ $ $ We NEED EVERYONE that lives in the Quad-City area that has a Fry s VIP card, to also SIGN UP for the COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM. ANYONE can sign up. Encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do so. This DOES NOT take away from any of your POINTS and DOES NOT COST you anything. Fry s will donate a percentage of your purchase totals (gift card purchases excluded) to OUR POST when you link your VIP account to OUR POST, via the COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM. The Post will receive a quarterly check from Fry s IF the total amount is $25.00 or more in earnings.
