HAPPY NEW YEAR JANUARY 2019 Sheila and I sincerely wish one and all a very Happy New Year. We hope it is a healthy and prosperous one for all. As we enter this year I need to remind everyone that it is an election year. We need volunteers to step forward to be officers in the chapter. We also need volunteers to host chapter meetings. There is a go fund me request in this newsletter from Charlie Weeks. It s not for Charlie but for his son. Help if you can. If you are a dues payer and have forgotten to send in your dues to Phil Devon, please do so, ASAP. George W "Speedy" Gaspard, an "ORIGINAL", will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery on January 29th at 1100 hours. Services will be held in the Old Post Chapel. Following the service, the Special Forces Charitable Trust is hosting a reception for all attending, at the Ft. Meyer Officer Club, 214 Jackson Avenue. In last month s newsletter, there were pictures of Dave Soucie receiving a quilt from Shirley Bath. Just one change. The Quilt was presented by Shirley from the Ladies of The Lake Quilters Guild. They make a lot of quilts for veterans! God Bless Them. Also in the last newsletter we asked if you are able to get the newsletter on your computer and not snail mail to let us know. We are trying to save the chapter funds. Donations to the chapter: I received a $40.00 check from Fanny Entrichel. Thank you Fanny. I have sent it on to our treasurer. Judy Drewry received a $100.00 check from Dale Barnes to help defray cost of newsletters, which she has sent on to our treasurer as well. Richard Whitman, President
Hello Guys and Chapter XXI, We hope each and every one had a very good merry Christmas and looking forward to a great 2019. We are doing well however, our son is not, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He is unable to work and with no income, he needs help. Our grand daughter lives in Albuquerque New Mexico and she set up a gofundme account to help. I hope you guys don t mind however, I have contributed to the chapter before. I am not requesting that any one should contribute but, if any chapter member would like just go to the View campaign below. Our son lives in Raeford NC and he visited a Doctors in November and the Doc told him he had 3 to 9 months to live. All we can do is support him and pray for him. We still miss going to meetings and the good people of Chapter XXI. Thanks to each and every one. Best Regards Charlie & Charlotte Weeks https://www.gofundme.com/wrhccv-help-chris-fight-cancer Update from GoFundMe page: He decided to make an appointment with the oncology department at Duke University Hospital which is about 2 hours from where he lives. He began chemotherapy about 2 weeks ago and he is responding! We are so happy that there is hope now! He has had a small carpet cleaning business in a small town for many years now with no other employees. They suspect that working with strong chemicals for so many decades has contributed to him getting cancer. He is so sick now that he cannot work and his family has NO income and he cannot afford insurance now. I am hoping to help raise money to help him pay bills, but groceries, pay for the 4 hour trips to get treatment and other medical expenses. ********************************************************************** IMPORTANT MESSAGE - PLEASE READ NOTE TO ANNUAL DUES MEMBERS: For those who have NOT paid their 2019 dues, 31 January is the last grace period day. Dues payments after that date require reinstatement and an additional $5.00 fee (total cost $45.00). To insure payment to SFA before deadline, dues MUST be in NLT 24 January. Send your checks to the Assistant Treasurer: Philip Devon, 4313 North Course Lane, Avon Park, FL 33825 **********************************************************************
