December 2018 Happy Holidays! May the Holiday season fill your home with joy, your heart with love, and your life with laughter. 2018 has been a busy year for SAC, filled with social events, fundraising, community involvement, and giving back initiatives. The best part- was all the memories, fun, and friendships we made along the way. SAC looks forward to a new year...new hopes and new beginnings in 2019. Happy New Year!

February 2018 We started the year off with our annual B.Y.O.B event at the Log Cabin. The evening was filled with dancing, food, and fun! Music was provided by DJ Dancing Dan. SAVE THE DATE! This year s B.Y.O.B. is scheduled for Saturday, February 2 from 6-10 pm. Hope to see you there. WHO IS SAC? Established in 1993, The Pitt Johnstown Staff Association Council provides representation to all non-union, non-faculty employees at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Staff Association Council: Works to address areas of interest and concern to Pitt Johnstown staff Improves lines of communication among campus departments Identifies areas for staff training and development Administers the Rose Reesey Memorial Book Award Creates a peer support network for new employees Participates in community service projects as representatives of Pitt Johnstown staff Organizes social and recreational events Maintains a close relationship with the University of Pittsburgh Staff Association Council

Daffodil Days is an opportunity for everyone to join the American Cancer Society in saving lives, celebrating lives and leading the fight for a world without cancer. Thank you to everyone who purchased flowers this year. APRIL 2018 DINING FOR DOLLARS SAC organized it s first Dining to Donate fundraiser at Applebee s on Wednesday, April 25. Faculty and Staff enjoyed lunch and/or dinner and SAC earned 15% of the food sales totaling $78.72. The monies received from this event will help to offset future event expenses. SAC IS ON FACEBOOK Find us on Facebook. SAC regularly posts information regarding events and activities. MAY 2018 STUVER S GREENHOUSE FUNDRAISER The Stuver s Nursery coupon fundraiser was a huge success. SAC received $5 for every hanging basket sold and $3 for every flat of flowers sold for a profit of $412. The coupons were sold just in time for spring and made a perfect gift for Mother s Day. Thank you to everyone who purchased the coupons and supported SAC.

JULY 2018 FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT Family Movie Night was a great success. Over 150 adults and kids enjoyed watching Honey I Shrunk the Kids from the campus lawn on a cool, crisp summer night. The movie was projected off of the back of Blackington Hall. Lawn games were enjoyed prior to the movie. Special thanks Pitt Johnstown s IT Department and to our sponsors Galliker's Dairy and the Pitt Johnstown Book Store. Movie licensing was provided by Swank Motion Pictures, Inc. What a great community event! WHERE SAC MEETS The Staff Association Council meets the second Wednesday of each month. The meetings are held in the Student Union conference room next to Brioche Dorée. All staff are welcomed to attend the monthly meetings. DID YOU KNOW? You do not have to use your personal lunch time to attend monthly meetings. Meetings are approved work hours and supervisors are asked to accommodate time for staff to attend meetings. 2019 UPCOMING MEETINGS All meetings begin at 12:30 p.m. January 9 February 13 March 13 April 10 May 8 June 12 July 10 August 14 September 11 October 9 November 13 December 11

GET INVOLVED Can t make our monthly meetings? No problem. DONATE YOUR TALENTS SEPTEMBER 2018 WINES AND WREATHS What can be more fun then craft making and wine tasting? Attendees made beautiful custom made wreaths at SAC s first craft event held on Thursday, September 20. Look for more craft events in 2019. We are in need of some additional hands and creative people for some great projects we would like to accomplish this semester. If you are interested in donating your time and talents please contact a council member. We would love to have you! HAVE AN IDEA? We would love to hear from you. OCTOBER 2018 H2P TSHIRT SALE On November 14, SAC presented the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center a check for $475 from the proceeds of the H2Pink shirt sales. 95 shirts were purchased by faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

2019 Upcoming Events Here are just a few of the events that SAC has started planning for 2019. Hope you can join us this year! Details to follow. WINE TOUR BUS TRIP SAC spent a fall day exploring three southwestern PA wineries. The day included lots of wine tasting, food trucks, and music! What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with good friends! February Annual B.Y.O.B March Faculty/Staff Trivia Night Swarovski Jewelry Making April Applebee s Dining to Dollars May Washington Zoo Bus Trip December Christmas in NY City Bus Trip Snacks with Santa NOVEMBER 2018 VETERAN TSHIRT SALE We are in need of some additional hands and creative people. If you are interested in donating your time and talents with any of these events, please contact a council member. We would love to have you! On December 12, SAC presented Dr. Jerry Samples a check for $379.50 for Semper Fi Outdoor Odyssey. Semper Fi Odyssey, located in Boswell, is an unique transition program for wounded service members. The program is designed to get participants ready for life after military service while preparing them for success. Dr. Samples, a veteran himself, serves as an education mentor for the program. The funds donated were raised selling red t-shirts in support of Red Shirt Fridays.

DECEMBER 2018 SHARE A PAIR SOCK TREE You may have noticed the Blackington Hall lobby Christmas tree decorated this year with socks, as part of the Share A Pair Sock Drive. All items collected will be donated to the Salvation Army and distributed to local families. SNACKS WITH SANTA SAC sponsors an annual Snacks with Santa event in December at the Living Learning Center. Pictures with Santa, festive games, and crafts were enjoyed by children from as young as 8 months of age to 12 years of age. The event is open to all children, grandchildren, family and friends of Pitt-Johnstown faculty and staff. 17th Annual Family Holiday Project SAC collected funds for the 17th Annual Family Holiday Project and thanks to the generosity from faculty and staff we are able to spread the spirit of the holiday season from the funds collected with two students and one staff member who have been affected by hardship this year.
