SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, BUCKS COUNTY, PA 3rd QUARTER 2015 NEWSLETTER SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROGRAMS Programs are held at Church School, the Society s one-room schoolhouse at 2165 Route 212 in Pleasant Valley (GPS Coopersburg), PA. Programs begin at 2:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of April and May, and then again in October, November. There is no charge. The public is invited. Note: Members only receive our quarterly journal, the Springfield Chronicles, along with this newsletter. You may receive our journal via USPS First Class by becoming a Society member. Saturday, August 29 th, 9:30 AM until 12 NOON CHURCH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE Visit us on a pleasant late summer morning to view the historic artifacts, photos, and documents in our beautifully restored Church School. The interior has recently been reconfigured to enable easier viewing and greater accessibility. Board members will be available to discuss your interests. We usually offer these open houses 3 times a year, and they are an ideal opportunity to peruse the many historical documents, albums and papers in our Church School repository. Prior visitors will be surprised, and hopefully delighted, at the changes. Hope to see you there! Saturday, August 29 th, 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM ENJOY A MEAL AT THE PASSER COMMUNITY CENTER The Society is pleased to announce a very special fundraising event to support our sister organization, the Passer Community Center. A "milk can stew" dinner is to be prepared by Chef Karl Teller and will be offered for a donation of $10.00 per person. Chef Teller will be using fresh ingredients of the highest quality from the Keller Farm in Springfield Township, along with other local farms. You will not go away hungry, and your palate will be quite pleased! Due to logistics we must limit the number of diners to 50. As such, we are asking for reservations please send in your check, Memo Passer Dinner, to PO Box 21 to reserve your seat. Also, checks may be mailed to PCC, Attn: Susan Schaeffer, 3483 Flint Hill Road, Coopersburg, PA 18036. Phone: 610-267-6527

for more info. If you missed the last one, held at the Church School in 2013, now is your second chance. Don t miss this one! Saturday, September 26 th, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY DAY The Society is once again planning to have a booth at the Springfield Township Community Day, held at the Silver Creek Athletic Association in Springtown. Please stop by for a visit, we d love to make your acquaintance. Calendars - The Society has published a 2015 calendar. The calendars are still available for purchase at our Church School events, or at the Springtown Post Office. We also have a limited quantity of prior year calendars available. We will mail via USPS. Our current year calendar sells for $7.00, and please add $1.75 for postage. The President s Pen Dear Friends and Neighbors, As we begin our 2016 membership campaign I m pleased to say that your historical society is transforming into a wonderful archival repository and research library where local history and genealogy are easily available and accessible. We have a few volunteers who selflessly give hours of time without thought of compensation, yet, it costs money to provide resources through the print and electronic media. I am disappointed to report that while we have had many favorable comments, including numerous Likes on Facebook, we are not growing our membership at this time. I urge each and every one reading this message to send in a membership donation while it s still fresh your mind. When doing so you ll note that for the first time in many years the board has raised individual memberships to $15.00. Monetary support from the community is crucial in keeping our programs in place continuing to enable our community outreach, and helping to preserve the past for the future!

Sincerely, Tom Cline, President THANK YOU To board member Pat Jamann and volunteer Eileen Sue Conner for hours of work this summer sorting through material and setting up archival locations. Pat continues to work on the Society s technology (Facebook and website). A warm welcome awaits anyone else who may desire to help the few make a difference for the many. To Honorary Member, and maintenance expert, Dick Hari, who s always on call and responsive for Church School building issues. Dick, also the primary groundskeeper for the Society, is a busy man this time of year. We thank him for his tireless care and concern. FACEBOOK The Society has a Facebook Page. Look for our historic pictures - usually posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Find our page at www.facebook.com/sthschurchschool. Please like our Facebook page as well as click on notifications under the drop down menu below the like button to receive current news/posts from the Society.
